What To Do When You’ve Been The Victim Of Injury

Written by:  Jamie

These days you can fall victim to injury in a variety of different ways and in a variety of different circumstances and as you always see these adverts for injury compensation and although it’s true you can get compensation for injuries that are not your fault but it’s important to be prepared and get all your information in line before you begin even thinking bout this. I was unfortunate enough to have needed this a while back and it was very complex and if I’d known how to prepare it would have helped a lot.

Make Detailed Notes & Keep Any Evidence You Might Have

It’s essential that you make detailed notes of the accident or incident as soon as possible after it has occurred as it’s at this point that it will be clearest in your mind and you won’t forget important details. It’s also important that you keep absolutely all forms of documentary evidence including police reports, photographs of the scene, clothing and any items connected such as time cards if it’s a workplace injury.

Contact The Medical Facility To Get Doctors Notes & Statements

Medical evidence is the most important type of evidence in the event of a personal injury claim. If you’ve been admitted to any hospital or other medical facility you can get the notes from them as this will be key evidence. I have found that my urgent care clinic were very helpful in giving me full notes and briefings on the injuries and I even got the statements from my doctors which were absolutely key when it came to the compensation case.

Get Good Legal Representation

It’s the most key thing you can think about in one of these types of cases is getting the right personal injury lawyer for your particular case. Firstly you’ll be wanting to get a lawyer who has handled your type of case before-hand and when you get your first meeting ask them for examples of what cases they have handled that relate to your one, also ensure of the fee structure at this stage and you should get a lawyer who is happy to work on a no win, no fee basis and that everything is included in this. Once you are happy with your choice of lawyer be sure to get all of this information on what they will do for you and what the fees are and who they will be paid for in the result of both a win or a loss.

Be Realistic About The Effects On Your Life, Consider Everything!

When you go into this it’s important to consider how the accident has affected every aspect of your life, don’t feel to leave anything out, costs you’ve incurred, disruptions to your work, what this has cost you and the effects on your family and social life, has it lead to trauma or any negative effect at all on the quality of your life.
