Irina Vasylkova, 25, boarded a Polar Airlines flight between Yakutsk and Zyryanka. Unexpectedly, she began to experience labor pains shortly after takeoff. The flight attendants moved her to a seat with more legroom and alerted the pilot of the situation, who then tried to speed up the flight.
It was soon very obvious that Vasylkova’s twins had no intention of being delivered in a hospital. Her labor progressed quickly, and just like a movie, the flight attended began to ask the passengers if there was a doctor on board.
Well, there was not only a doctor on the plane, but an obstetrician. Dr. Elena Sleptcova volunteered her expertise and delivered the first child midair. Her sister was born after landing as the plane was taxiing to a gate.
The mother and her two babies were taken to a hospital, and have been reported to be doing well.
