With a 4 year old girl who is learning to read and a 2 year old little boy who loves having books read to him, i have to admit that there’s only so many times I can read “Go Dog Go!” or “Clifford” before starting to dread bedtime. At the same time, I’d much rather be reading to them than handing them the iPad. it’s a love/hate relationship with bedtime…it’s my favorite time to get one-on-one with my kids and unwind at the end of the day but putting 2 toddlers can be just plain awful if I’m being honest. I’m just glad my wife and I have each other to team up, separate and conquer.
I was given the opportunity to try out a customized book for my son from the good people at i See Me! My son loves anything that goes…cars, trucks, trains, “airpwanes and harricopters.” So when i got to pick, “My Very Own Trucks,” from their catalog, I knew it would be a hit. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I emailed them my son’s name and a picture…but I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised and my son LOVED it.
The books are full of colorful pictures with tons of different things for kids to point out and notice. The book is about a team of vehicles with animal operators that work together to build your child’s name – first and last. It’s a lesson in letters, words and object recognition in a very professional and well-done package. My wife was a kindergarten teacher before becoming an elementary school principal and she even gave it her expert approval.
The true test was with my son though. He opened to the first page and saw his picture and yelled, “I see my Pierce!” We went through the pages and he named off all of the vehicles and started asking me, “what do YOU see daddy?” I can honestly say he was more engaged than he has been with any book I’ve read to him. He has asked for it at bedtime the last 4 nights and isn’t tired of it. I’m not either because the beauty is that it serves both as a book that I can read, or one where we can just look at the pictures and point out all the things we see.
We’re fortunate enough to be giving away a copy of this book on our Facebook page. Look for the share here and comment with the hashtag #ISeeMeBooks. In the comments section, list which of their books from their website you’d like to win. We’ll choose a lucky winner at random.
