What is a Medical Spa?

Written by:  Jamie

Medical spas (or medi-spas) are a hybrid between your normal day spa and a medical clinic. Medi-spas have vastly increased in popularity over the last few years and they are a great place to get professional medical treatment in relaxing spa-like surroundings. With a medical spa, you get to benefit from both the spa experience and expertise you could traditionally only find in a hospital or doctors’ office.

The main difference between a medical spa and a day spa are the treatments and procedures on offer; medical procedures which you cannot get at a regular spa are commonly performed at medical spas.

#1: Medical Spas are Regulated

Unlike your ordinary day spa, medical spas – such as Spa MD, are owned, operated and affiliated with medical professionals. Medical spas are highly regulated, and all treatments and procedures are either performed by or under the supervision of highly trained medical staff.

Depending on where you go, medical spas can massively vary. Some medical spas are very high-brow and are akin to other five-star day spa experiences whereas others are a lot more clinical and aren’t so focused on luxury elements. The major difference between a medical and day spa, therefore, is that medical spas are driven by results whereas day spas are driven by customer satisfaction and efforts to be as luxurious and relaxing as possible.

#2: Medical Spa Treatments

There are many elements of a medical spa which are the same as a day spa when it comes to treatments: think of massages, facials and seaweed wraps – you can find all of these and more at pretty much any medical spa.

In addition to these traditional spa treatments, medical spas offer specialized and individually-tailored treatment plans which you won’t be able to find anywhere else. Many common medical spa treatments include laser treatments, chemical peels and dermal fillers.

The treatments on offer will vary depending on the medical spa itself but, in general, there are treatments to address just about any problem, from acne to hair removal and beyond!

#3: Why Choose a Medical Spa Over a Day Spa?

It comes down to preference and your needs more than anything. If you do not have any underlying health problems or want any specific treatments, a day spa will work well for you. However, if you are looking for something a little bit more than a regular spa treatment and want to be seen by a medical professional at the same time – especially if you suffer from health problems – then a medical spa is clearly going to be more beneficial to you.  Visit RenewMD Wellness Fremont Medical Spa to know the best treatment for your condition.

Although medical and day spas have a lot in common, they are two very distinct entities. A medical spa, as the name suggests, offers treatments which are more catered towards people who have medical conditions or people who want to undergo certain treatments – such as dermal fillers – whilst being in a relaxing spa-like environment. Medical spas vary a lot in terms of how ‘clinical’ they feel and how many different treatments are on offer, but with the huge number of medical spas out there, it is not difficult to find the right one for you.
