Using Memes to Brand Your Business – A Brief Guide

Written by:  Rex

Memes are one of the best types of marketing out there, but only if you use them correctly. Memes have a large impact on our daily lives – but what’s so great about memes?

Keyword being “our” – Anyone reading this article is already somewhat familiar with memes, even if they do not spend their free time looking at meme-related content.

Talking to your target audience directly implies that you know who they are and their interests (even though we all know everyone likes memes). However, as much as we believe people like them, how can you actually use memes for business branding?

You might be thinking something along the lines of “memes don’t fit my brand.” But isn’t it important to be unique and different? Memes are often silly, but they can be used in a way that fits your business’s branding.

Let’s look at this meme – “That feeling when the semester is over.” This is a fairly popular meme for college students, as it describes how happy those who have finished exams must feel. Based on what you know about memes, though, could this actually fit into a marketing campaign?

Yes! Because of its popularity within a certain group (college students), it has a good chance of going viral if used correctly. There are very few college students who do not experience relief once finals week has passed. However, even this doesn’t make sense…

Because sometimes, applying little logic to something helps us see things we may not have before. “That feeling when the semester is over” ignores the circumstance that lots of college students do well in school and would be happy to continue their studies or even get a job.

You don’t want your marketing campaign to appeal only to a small group of people – you want it to go viral! Memes can be used for marketing by filling them with key information about your business and possible future campaigns. This way, the meme becomes useful in getting people talking about your brand and spreads across social media networks like Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr. The same way memes are often relatable, so too should your brand’s image be. You don’t need to stop using traditional ads or billboards (as they still work and reach large audiences), but you should also focus on your online presence.

This is where memes can help – they can draw people to your website, which increases the chances that they will buy from you or sign up for a mailing list (which might increase sales). Memes can also be used to advertise an event coming up, such as a concert. People see this and immediately start sharing it with their friends via social media sites, raising awareness for your business.

It would help if you used memes in a way that fits within your branding strategy. They are a great marketing tool when done properly!

Memes are a powerful tool for any brand that wants to connect with its audience on an emotional level. To get started, you can analyze the tone of your existing memes and create new ones accordingly.
