A baby shower is a rite of passage for parents-to-be – the final time when their friends and family can come together to celebrate their impending parenthood before the baby is born. But then, planning a baby shower can be stressful, especially in the age of Instagram when we’re bombarded with images of perfect showers.
Here’s how to make your shower, or one you’re throwing for a friend, perhaps one for the ages.
Desserts
Every party needs cake and sweets, and baby showers are no different! Instead of just getting one cake in the shape of something baby-related, why not choose a dessert cart that has something for all your guests? You could even theme the cart around the baby’s gender (if you know it), or their name if it has been decided. It’s a cute, fun way to offer food that will get everyone in the party atmosphere.
Gender Games
If the gender of the baby is a surprise, or only the mom-to-be knows, you can ask guests to guess if the baby is a boy or a girl using a fun game. Ask them to choose pink or blue, perhaps by picking a treat or a gift, so everyone gets to have fun guessing and getting something to take home with them, too.
Alternatively, why not put together a gender prediction photo booth? Make one side of the frame pink and the other blue. Each guest makes their prediction by having their photo taken in either the blue or pink frame. Everyone will be able to look back at their photo and remember what they guessed!
Our final gender reveal idea is one for after-the-party. That’s right, afterward! As part of your guests’ party favors, you could include a bath bomb that fizzes either pink or blue when put in the bath. Your guests will get a great surprise.
Pool Resources
Rather than all the guests buying individual gifts, it might be an idea to ask them to pool cash together to get something really good, like a huge hamper full of baby goodies, or even something big like a stroller if the mom doesn’t have one yet. A wardrobe of baby clothes from Bitsy Bug Boutique is also a great gift.
Eat Baby Food?
Another fun guessing game to play at baby showers is ‘guess the baby food.’ Take the labels off jars of baby food and ask guests to take a bite. Whoever guesses correctly what they’re eating, or gets closer to the real thing than anyone else, wins a prize. Simple and fun!
Cocktails for Mommas
The mom-osa is a perfect cocktail for a baby shower. A twist on the mimosa which, of course, traditionally contains alcohol, the mom-osa is perfect for moms-to-be. You could even create a few alcohol-free cocktails and have a cocktail-making class!
Guess Who
A classic baby shower game is ‘guess who.’ Ask all your guests to bring a photo of themselves when they were tiny, and get the guests to try and guess who is who. Not only do you get to coo over cute baby photos, but you also get a great bonding moment, too!
