Our family loves to travel, but there is no physical way we can take our children to all of the wonderful countries in the world to learn about their culture, food and people. That is why we started doing a monthly country study as part of our homeschooling program. This has proven to be our children’s favorite lessons throughout the month and, of course, their favorite part of the study is often when we try authentic native cuisine from the country we are studying.
This is why we were so excited to learn about Try The World, a food subscription box that allows you to discover the world through food. A Gourmet box will arrive at your doorstep every other month. Each box is curated by a celebrated chef from each country and comes with a pamphlet explaining what each item is and serving/preparation instructions and suggestions.
For our first box we started in the country of Argentina. The box was curated by Adolfo Suaya and the contents were all interesting enough to learn about, but not overly adventurous for most children. (The quince paste was the most unusual thing in our box.)
My favorite part is the culture guide that references both Argentina and the local food (including the contents of the box). Our favorite recipe was the marinated eggplant using the chimichurri sauce from our box. It was a great way for our family to try something different and provided a great opportunity to incorporate some sensory activities into the instruction about Argentina. We’re excited to continue our subscription as it was a big hit at our house with the kids and the adults!
