Tricks for Choosing Bridal Flowers

Bridal bouquets are a once-in-a-lifetime accessory. Just like wedding gowns, bridal flowers are unique for each bride. Their beauty is in that there is an endless variety from which to choose. The flowers are pretty to look at and allow you to express your style and be creative. They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. The common denominator for all of them is that they beautify your wedding and take a big chunk out of the budget.

How do you find the bouquet in line with your theme, have your desired blooms with your colors, and express your exclusive personality as a bride? It may not be a walk in the park, but it’s going to be an exciting process.  These tips will help you choose your unique bouquet.

Make a budget for Your Wedding.

This step is the determining factor. Your budget will determine how much you are going to spend buying the flowers. With the budget set, now you can decide on the type of flowers and the arrangement you will use.

Since marriage is for two people, sit down with your partner and decide on a comfortable budget for both of you. A tentative average for most couples is eight percent of the budget, with the figure varying based on the types and arrangements.

The bigger your budget, the more elaborate floral designs you can afford. Remember to prioritize greenery wedding ideas or other floral accents if your budget is tighter.

The Rule of Thumb

What kind of bouquet do you want? A formal, semiformal, or casual one? An excellent rule of thumb is to match your bridal bouquet to the length of your train or your gown. Fuller, more elaborate dresses go well with long-stemmed traditional garlands, while more informal gowns coordinate well with more casual bouquets bunches.

Find a Wedding Florist

Hiring a good wedding florist who understands the meaning of rose colors will help you find flowers that fit in with your color scheme and the season. Your florist will bring your vision to life and make your wedding how you dreamt it. So, choose a florist who will understand what you want and what you feel.

You may not be able to make a professional decision regarding your bridal flowers, but your wedding florist will make all the tough decisions. Remember to do good research before picking your wedding florist. Check out their previous work, read their reviews, and get a sense of who they are, their sense of style, and their specialties.

Get Inspiration

Browse wedding flower photos of your friends or other real weddings. You can also browse online pictures of wedding flowers. You will most likely find a floral arrangement that you adore. Please take note of your preferences to discuss with your florist.

Include your taste in color, texture, shape, and style. Even unexpected places like a wedding in a movie or the flower market in your local town can inspire you. Ask family or friends about the flowers they used in a wedding that you attended and loved.

Once you have a broad vision of what you want, share it with your florist. They will take it from there and bring your ideas to life.

Know the Basics Regarding Bridal Bouquets

If you do not know some of the blooms used for wedding flowers, do some research before meeting up with your florist. Familiarize yourself with popular wedding flowers and designs. Popular colors include lilies, hydrangeas, peonies, roses, ranunculus, calla lilies, lisianthus, and orchids. Others have gladiolas and delphiniums.

You could opt for fragrant blooms like jasmine, lilacs, freesias, sweet peas, peonies, and gardenias. Work up a bit of flower lingo to communicate your preferences effectively to your florist. Hence, you won’t be at a loss when they bring up floral names and ideas.

Use Your Color Themes

If you are not familiar with all the flower names, think of them in terms of colors. However, flowers like carnations, mums, roses, tulips, dahlias, and lilies are some of the flowers that come in almost all colors. The rest have a more limited selection.

Your blooms do not have to be the exact match for the rest of the decor, but they do need to complement your color palette. The colors for the attire, table linens, and decorations, plus all the miscellaneous accents, should all be complimentary.

Be as specific as possible so that your florist can get your colors right. If possible, provide paint chips, pieces of the attire fabric, and photos to help make your vision clear. Your florist will be able to find the closest match.

Start with Your Wedding Bouquets

Your wedding bouquets are a statement piece that will be key to designing an arrangement that captures your unique style. Work at this bridal garland with your florist to perfectly reflect your personality and elegance.

Then move on to the other floral arrangements like the brides-maid’s bouquets, aisle markers, centerpieces, and boutonnieres. These other bloomy arrangements do not have to be exact replicas of the bridal bunch, but they need to have similar flowers and colors to create a consistent look.

Make it Comfortable and Picture Perfect.

You will be holding your bouquet the whole day long. So it needs to be comfortable to hold. Therefore, do not select something heavy or awkward to carry. In addition, make it picture perfect!  You will want to have pictures of your bridal bouquet to display around your house.

Ask your photographer to take beautiful closeups of your bridal garland

Pick the Flowers of Your Wedding Season

No rule says that you only use the flowers that are in season, but for the sake of your budget, use in-season flowers.  Out-of-season flowers might not be so handy. The flowers will also come at a higher cost than the ones in season.

Matching Your Wedding Style with The Flowers

Wedding flowers generally reflect the style and tone of your wedding. Have more traditional or formal flowers if your wedding is a black-tie affair. If yours is more relaxed and informal, get creative with your flowers with mix and match pieces, handmade details, and loose garden-style arrangements.

Final Thoughts

Your choice of flowers will set the tone for your wedding.  Thus, use descriptive words with your florist to describe your wedding style. Include descriptions of dress code, venue, décor, and any other relevant idea you plan to incorporate in your wedding. Your florist will come up with precisely what you need to make it your dream wedding.
