Tips for Driving Long Distances With Kids

Written by:  Jamie

Potential hassles are numerous with road trips where kids are involved. They may need to pee often, get bored, nag, and make the whole trip a nightmare. However, there are few tricks you can use to ensure that such occurrences don’t happen or minimize them significantly.

Leave Early

Hitting the road before dawn will save you a lot of trouble. During this time, the kids are likely to be tired and may sleep for a long stretch. Remember to also carry meals along since hungry children can be very stubborn.

Consider Leasing a Car

Leased cars are often perfect for long distances. Intelligent Car Leasing offers attractive and competitive prices and is always the best bet. The vehicles come with carefully tested safety features. Most of the cars have forward emergency autonomous braking systems that are necessary for reducing the force of any form of impact drastically. They may also have a blind spot detection warning, rear traffic alert, and automatic emergency call systems, among others.

With such a travel car, you get to feel safer in the knowledge that low risk is guaranteed. Should the car get scratched or have a breakdown, it is never your problem. You really get to enjoy the road trip with your kids. Ensure that the automobile you choose gives the kids enough space around them. Also, make arrangements to have an in-car DVD or music. A good movie can keep the kids occupied. Confirm that each can watch clearly from where they are seated without having to lean forward.

Make Stops

A long trip calls for enough stops. Ensure to stop for diaper changes, stretches, feeding, and peeing. Once they empty their bladders, don’t mention it until the next stop. Asking if everyone has peed may just make the kids want to do so again after every few minutes.

Although it will take almost double the time you would need to get there, this will help in getting your kids excited about the whole trip. Once in the car, you may need to pretend to be preoccupied at some point. That will make you temporarily unavailable to answer endless questions and meet their demands.

Make Driving Time Playing Time

Unless they are distracted, children can’t stay calm. You can carry colored pencils, books, and toys. When their moods get bad, it is up to the parents to come up with new games, stories, or songs.

Surviving a long distance trip with children can be exciting. Always plan to make the experience as comfortable and peaceful as possible. When leasing, remember to choose the right type of car for your travel purposes. Have problems fixed before taking the vehicle back to the dealership. If the tires are worn out, for instance, buy another set instead of waiting for the leasing company to charge you for new ones. Also, pack everything that will be needed the night before the trip. Given that you know your kids best, it should be easy for you to choose things that will keep them busy the whole time. You can find more helpful articles on iamnotthebabysitter.com.
