How to Throw a Memorable Gender Reveal Party

Written by:  Jamie

You’ve just found out the gender of your baby and you want to find a unique way to share the news with those closest to you. This is a huge milestone in your pregnancy and you want it to be celebrated. Throwing a gender reveal party is the perfect way for this to happen! It’s a party where you can answer the dying question, “Is it a boy or a girl?” If you’re going to make it memorable, here are some suggestions on throwing the perfect gathering.

Create a Theme

Themes make parties a lot more memorable – so start there. The great thing about gender reveal parties is that there are so many options to choose from. Some of the better ideas tie into the whole question of whether it’s a boy or a girl. Here are a few:

  • Prince and princess

  • Football players and cheerleaders

  • Pink and blue

  • Bow ties and hair bows

  • Buck or doe

Plan the Reveal

The reveal is the grand finale and the whole reason for the celebration in the first place, so you’ll want to be creative here. Things have come a long way since these types of parties became popular, so think outside of the box on how you’d like to make a reveal. Here’s a few gender reveal ideas to consider:

  • Gender reveal cake – originally, the gender of the baby would be revealed through a cake. The couple would reveal the sex to the baker who would bake a cake that either has pink or blue filling inside. When the cake is cut everyone knows the surprise.

  • Confetti Balloon – you could fill a balloon with either blue or pink confetti and pop it to reveal the surprise.

  • Bombs and Cannons – If you really want the finale to go off with a bang, opt for a gender reveal powder bomb or a gender reveal powder cannon. Using either of these two gender reveal ideas are amazing! You will surely create the perfect gender reveal celebration for the new parents.

Get Guests Involved

Having your party guests participate in the fun and festivities is another way to make your gender reveal a blast. You could ask your guests to dress in the color that represents the sex they believe the baby to be or  have each of your guests fill out a card with their prediction. Then, the winning guests get to receive a prize. It doesn’t have to be an expensive one either. A gift card to a coffee shop, a few bucks, or a pair of movie tickets will work. It’s more about the fun.

You’ll Need Games Too

The last element to hosting a memorable gender reveal party is games. You’ll need to keep your guests entertained in between eating and socializing and there’s no better way to do that then with some friendly competition. There are plenty of games you could try like showing your sonogram and having them guess what they think the sex is, writing down a few of your top names and having them determine which one you’d choose, etc. The idea is to keep their minds on the big question – boy or girl?

Finding out you were expecting was likely one of the most surprising and exciting moments in your life. Now that you know whether your little angel is a prince or a princess, sharing it through celebration only seems fitting. As long as you have good food, great company, a cute theme, and plenty of games to keep your guests engaged and entertained, this party will certainly be one to remember.
