Baltimore homeowner, Julie Baker, who is a widow and mother of four, wanted to brighten up her yard in a very Pinteresty way. She made solar lamps with mason jars and spelled out “love” an “Ohana” (the Hawaiian word for family) within them. It’s a beautiful project that I now wish to replicate for my backyard.
One, I’m sure, very upbeat and friendly neighbour took offense enough that they decided to send Julie a note.
I, for one, am so glad someone is looking out for the children of the area and protecting their delicate eyes from the horrors of bright, uplifting colours.
Upon receiving the letter Julie was not sure how to feel about it. She chose to laugh and retaliate through more joy and brightness.
Its my home, I own it, I pay big taxes every year, I do not belong to a HOA, and this neighborhood belongs to the people in it …I am a widow and the mother of four children, my youngest in high school and I WILL NOT Relent to Hatred. Instead, I will battle it with whimsy and beauty and laughter and love, wrapped around my home, yard and family!!!
Julie has decided to respond by crowd-sourcing funds to fight the bigotry. If she can raise enough she says her roof will become a rainbow.
