Terramation

Written by:  Rex

The Terramation process ensures your last act on earth is one that gives back to it by returning life-giving soil to the earth. With today’s eco-conscious mindset, there is no disposition choice more friendly to the environment. After two short months, your loved one’s remains transform into rich, fertile soil. When you visit our funeral chapel and meet with one of our funeral directors, you can expect to spend 1-3 hours gathering information, designing a ceremony, and selecting products. You can cut that time considerably by completing arrangements for burial or cremation with our online planning technology. You can also have a laying ceremony at Return Home’s facility as a final way to say goodbye.

How Terramation works

The terramation process involves the body being placed in a sealed and environmentally controlled vessel along with some organic materials such as alfalfa, straw, and sawdust. Oxygen flows through the vessel, stimulating the body’s microbe to become active. The microbes quickly transform the body into organic matter. This process is closely monitored and controlled. After 30 days, the soil is removed from the vessel to cure, and in 60 days, the fertile soil gets ready to return to the earth. The soil is then delivered to the loved one family if they need it. Any soil that one’s family does not wish to use will be used to nurture land in need of revitalization.

Terramation is chemical-free and uses only natural materials and Oxygen during this delicate process. The process is energy-efficient and results in soil that provides life-giving nutrients to the earth and helps retain nitrogen in the ground.

Laying In

Our laying-in service allows families and loved ones to bid their loved ones goodbye in person or virtually while also adorning them with items that show love and celebrate their memory.

Terramation

During this process Oxygen flows through the vessel, which stimulates microbes in the body. These microbes rapidly transform the body into the soil in just thirty days.

Resting

During this stage, the soil is screened for inorganics and placed into a cube to cool for the next thirty days.

Life Grows On

The life-giving soil is ready to be returned home to the family or scattered at The Woodland.

Where can Terramated soil be used?

After terramation you and your family decide how and where to use the soil. The soil is highly rich in life-giving nutrients and marvelously fertile, hence making it ideal for a memorial garden or landscape. You can create a memorial flower bed or plant a tree. Scatter it in a sacred place. Families are welcome to take as much soil as they wish or donate the rest to nurture land in need of revitalization.

What amount of soil results after the Terramation process?

Approximately a yard of nutrient-rich soil results from the terramation process. The entire amount can be picked up, delivered, or shipped. If it is one of the family’s wishes, then a smaller portion of the soil can be given to the family, and the remaining soil can be donated to land needing restoration.
