Tech vs. Nature – How to Get the Right Balance for Your Kids

Written by:  Jamie

As a modern parent, it is incredibly important to look at what you can do to get the right balance in life for your kids. On the one hand, you don’t want them to spend too much time relying on technology and looking at a screen, but at the same time, technology is the future of the world, and you can’t shut them off from this. So it is really important to make sure you get the balance right.

The thing is, this can actually be more difficult than you might imagine, and there are a lot of things to consider. If you want to get the right balance between technology and nature, you are going to have to have some sort of plan or structure in place. There is a lot you need to think about in this respect, and these are some of the things you can do to achieve this.

Take Regular Trips at the Weekend

One of the best ways of tackling this issue is to make sure you get out and about on a regular basis. This is something you need to make sure you get sorted as soon as you can, and you should try to make it a regular thing. There are a lot of things you need to consider, but if you can take regular trips away, and get out and about, it’s going to keep the kids involved with nature and ensure that this plays a bigger role in their lives.

Limit Tech-Use to a Couple of Games and Apps

You need to make sure you limit the tech your kids are using and try to choose just a few apps and games. Pick games that are involved, engaging, and well reviewed, like Final Fantasy 15, and try to get a few educational apps in there as well. If you can limit the choice, it is much more likely that your children will seek out stimulation in nature organically rather than you trying to force it on them.

Have a Tech-Free Day

One of the best ideas for modern families these days is to make sure you have a tech-free day for everyone. Choose one day a week (it doesn’t always have to be the same day) where you can enjoy a whole day with no technology, and no looking at screens. You can take a trip together as a family and enjoy the outside world – something like a camping trip might be ideal.

Combine the Two

Now, another excellent tactic here would be to combine technology and nature in order to generate greater interest for the kids. You can use plenty of interactive apps to help you achieve this, and even augmented reality games like Pokemon Go are a great way of achieving this. The combination of tech and nature might seem like a strange one, but it is definitely the way forward.

These are some of the excellent ideas that will help you get a great balance between nature and technology. You have to make sure you take a look at what you can do to improve this balance for the kids and try to get them interested in nature as a result.
