We’ve all been there. We see a problem in our house–a leaky faucet, a drain that won’t drain right, a poorly running dishwasher–and we add it to our mental list. I need to do something about that. And then we leave it for another couple of months.
It’s hard to deal with every home-problem at once, but every time we put it off till later, the harder it becomes to do. The more problems we have, the more we procrastinate, and the more new ones pile up. Soon, we don’t want to tackle even one of them, but the list has grown into the double digits, and we know we need to start tackling projects asap.
While it probably won’t help to, like Snow White, whistle while you work, you can find some other ways to get yourself motivated. Put on a comedy album or a podcast and get to work. Put the list on your fridge and promise yourself a reward when you’re actually done with each item. (We all need an occasional carrot, too.) Once you get down to brass tacks, you’ll find that it all goes faster than you thought it would. The simpler tasks can probably be brushed through in a single afternoon. Those aren’t the tasks you’re really dreading, though. The ones you’re really dreading are the ones you’re not even sure how to solve.
Some problems might not be a quick fix. Drano will fix your slow-draining tub, but not much will fix your clunky dishwasher, except a new dishwasher. While it’s disheartening to buy a new appliance, it is a chance to do something nice for yourself and your kitchen. (And to finally, finally have clean dishes.) Dacor has luxurious, modern appliances, and their selection might include your perfect dishwasher.
Some problems you just don’t have the energy to deal with anymore. Leaves in your gutter, every year, have to be dragged out by hand, while you stand stiff and freezing on a ladder. You can’t take much more of that. Sometimes procrastination has to be beaten with a bigger solution, and whether you live in Muncie, IN, or Bay City, MI, there’s a trusted company out there who will install gutter covers. What a relief!
Some problems you can tackle on your own. Other problems, you have the common sense to delegate to someone else. Gutter covers will save you grief year after year, and since you’re not planning on climbing up that ladder when you’re eighty, you’ll end up buying them anyway. May as well enjoy it right away. Same thing with a working dishwasher. At some point you’re going to have to bite the bullet and get a better one. You may as well do it now.
Your home deserves proper care, and you deserve to get that list taken care of–once and for all!
