Supporting Mothers 9

‘Kid President’ talks about extended breastfeeding and it’s awesome!

Kid president is at it again with his adorable charm and wise words. He recently created a short for Mother’s Day about supporting mothers. He pointed out that in our society it’s common and somewhat accepted for mothers to shame their peers based on their parenting choices.

In his segment Kid president dons a ridiculous wig and reveals the character of a judgmental mother.

In his skit he says, “Moms, don’t Judge Judy each other or battle another mom because … Keep Reading!!!

Haylie Duff puts postpartum weight loss in perspective and chooses breastfeeding

We live in an era where how you look is everything, especially in Hollywood. The pressure for a new mom to “bounce back” immediately after birth is ridiculous. Haylie Duff was not immune to feeling the pressure but came out this week to say that working on her body wasn’t near as important as breastfeeding her daughter.

Haylie gave birth to her daughter, Ryan Eva, 9-months-ago and says she still doesn’t feel like she “looks amazing”. But rather than allow … Keep Reading!!!

Professor helps single mother and ROTC student finish her exam by babysitting her children

Anyone who has tried to balance parenting and being a student can tell you how hard it is. Figuring out childcare, finding time to study, time to be a present parent – it’s a lot of work. The stress of a babysitter canceling right before a big exam is one of the worst case scenarios. This is exactly what happened to Monica Romero, earlier this month.

Monica is an Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) student at the University … Keep Reading!!!

This breastfeeding mother refuses to be shamed by onlookers, she fights back instead

When Ashley Kaidel‘s son got hungry, while they were at a restaurant, she did what mother’s do – she fed him. Of course, because she did so with your breasts people start staring. Rather than feel shamed she decided to stare right back. This is when her dining partner took a photo of her, a photo which she posted to Facebook along with a post about normalizing breastfeeding. The statement she made, both within her writing and her photo … Keep Reading!!!

BBC releases findings from their investigation into radio personality’s anti-breastfeeding rant

In August, BBC radio personality, Alex Dyke, took on breastfeeding as a topic for his show, and it didn’t end well. It started because a mother nursed her hungry baby, next to him, on a bus. It ended when he was suspended after his rant, which included comments about how “unnatural” breastfeeding was; about “earth mothers…the ones with moustaches” who breastfeed in public. He even included a warning to women that men don’t like to see breastfeeding and the … Keep Reading!!!

Regional health unit offers breastfeeding toolkit to local businesses

A health unit in the Grey Bruce Region of Ontario, Canada has put together a Breastfeeding Friendly business toolkit. This kit is designed to help businesses and organizations with strategies and resources to support their customers as well as their employees. This is great timing as just this summer a local restaurant asked a nursing mom, who was waiting on a friend, to leave their premises, in direct defiance of Ontario’s Human Rights Code.

Dr. Hazel Lynn, Grey … Keep Reading!!!

Mother of Three Recieves Help from Strangers While in the ER with Her New Baby

When 27-year-old Kaylee Goemans received a call from her doctor that she needed to take her 6 week old son, Dominic, to the ER because of complications with an intestinal disorder, she rushed right in. Having lost her job when 28 weeks pregnant, making it so she didn’t qualify for government maternity leave pay, she opted to park on the road. Paying $3 for 4 hours of parking, rather than $15 in the hospital lot. She thought, because the tests … Keep Reading!!!

Parenting for the Needs of Your Child- Johnny’s Story

I was talking to my friend the other day about how she was led to her career as a social worker because of her heart for children. It evolved into a conversation about what life experiences helped to shape our passions in life. Unlike my friend, my passion is not as much for children as it is for mothers – which ultimately benefits children. With my own children, or children living at the center without parents, I have a close … Keep Reading!!!
