My parents had professional photos taken when I was 18 months old. I wanted to breastfeed in the middle of the session, and my mother obliged me. The photographer quietly snapped pictures while my parents were having a moment with me. They ended up loving the breastfeeding photos the most. To this day, a large framed photograph still hangs over one of their fireplaces in their home.
I love how my mother never made breastfeeding a dirty or secret act. … Keep Reading!!!
I’ve noticed that it is socially acceptable to criticize or belittle marital unions of young people. I’m not really sure why. People will also give the explanation of youth as the reason why their first marriage failed. This could very well be true, for them. However, I want people to know that choosing to marry young is a very real and authentic choice.
I met Brian when I was 16 and he was 21. He was the first … Keep Reading!!!
Mayim Bialik came out with a new Attachment Parenting book, Beyond the Sling: A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children the Attachment Parenting Way.
This book has stirred up a lot of emotion among mothers practicing different parenting styles.
The hot topic has been co-sleeping.
We are a co-sleeping family. I co-slept with my parents as a child, and Brian and I co-sleep with our children.
I thought co-sleeping was almost a non-issue in the US, but I … Keep Reading!!!
I am obsessed with The Hunger Games
I was at the book store today and I saw it on a stand that said “teen fiction.” Not my favorite literary term. I cringed when I saw the label because I am currently reading the series.
I was up until 2:30am this morning reading Hunger Games. It is the crack cocaine of books. My husband had to drag me out of my hypothermic bath I had been sitting in for … Keep Reading!!!
I’m starting a new monthly series about mothers that have changed the world. Whether it be by changing the way we think, the way we live, or the way we treat each other.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how the word mother gets thrown around to people who are truly not qualified for the title. We tend to focus on these females in our conversations and in the the news media.
I want to take away the focus … Keep Reading!!!

My dad turned 63 this week!
I’ve received so many lovely responses from his Valentine’s Day letter to me.
I know people liberally use the term “greatest dad in the world,” but mine really is great.
Here are some of the reasons I think this:

Happy Anniversary Brian! I love you!
Brian and I got married on Superbowl Sunday- kind of.
Our ceremony was that day, we eloped a few months earlier.
Coincidentally, the game was Giants vs. Patriots
We had our ceremony and reception at my grandmother’s house.
We kept it small (75 people)
I actually was opposed to a ceremony and reception. It was Brian that really wanted one.
In the end I am happy we had one!
We chose February 3rd because … Keep Reading!!!
I, too, am not the babysitter.
Most teenagers aspire to look older. After all, there are advantages to looking older at that point in life. Then, sometime in their 20s or 30s, many young adults begin to purposely reverse the signs of aging. I have yet to reach that point.
Ageism is a form of discrimination I have encountered throughout most of my adult life. From being asked what grade I was in by another teacher at a conference (she … Keep Reading!!!
I’d like everyone to meet Jenny! She is a rock star in the breastfeeding world!
1. Tell us about your personal breastfeeding experience with your children:
My daughter joined our family via adoption when she was 10 months old. I had followed the Newman-Goldfarb Protocols for Induced Lactation for the previous 12 months so that I’d be able to breastfeed her. I amazed both my husband and myself when I was able to bring in a significant milk supply … Keep Reading!!!
