Gone are the days of sitting in a retirement home playing bridge all day. This group of Granny Graffiti Artists are showing that you can still be a badass over the age of 65. LATA 65 is an art project that hands out spray paint to seniors and allows them to decorate the alleys of Lisbon, Portugal’s neglected neighborhoods.
So far, LATA 65 has brought 100 seniors out to beautify the city.
Lilly is a dementia patient and has recently been in a melancholic state. Lilly’s granddaughter, Maxine, knew that Lilly’s pride and joy in life is her children and so she bought her Nana a life-like baby doll. Traditionally, playgrounds are for kids. I’m sure most of us have mused about needing adult playgrounds at one time or another. Good news! They exist!! Spain has been building them for a while now for their aging senior population, and now they are starting to pop up in the US as well.
A non-profit company KaBOOM! has partnered up with Humana to build multi-generational playgrounds around the country. In fact, they’ve already built 50.

A hospital in Seattle has found a way to integrate daycare and assisted-living into one facility. Their new “Intergenerational Learning Center” brought a preschool into Mount St. Vincent nursing home. Each day the 400 adults living in the center are welcome to join the kids in activities from music and dancing to story telling to just visiting and connecting.
