Before getting to the birth you need to understand why and how we ended up with an Unassisted Birth. It was a journey.
I learned early on that I was having di/di twins. This means each baby has their own sac and their own placenta. I was not excited. I spent very little of my pregnancy actually excited. Immediately, the midwives threw a whole list of twin risks at me, and told me I was … Keep Reading!!!
International nonprofit WaterAid has come out with a series of photos focussing on what moms around the world pack in their bags when preparing to give birth. The goal is to raise awareness of the lack of clean water, hygiene and sanitation in many areas. In some areas it is so bad that hospitals don’t even have safe water access.
Katy Shaw is 31.
In her bag she packs toiletries, snacks, diapers, hat, socks, mittens, clothes and swaddles … Keep Reading!!!
Earlier this year, a video emerged of Kimberly Turbin’s labor and delivery. This video (which can be seen here, on our previous post about this story) shows Kimberly fighting, during the most intense part of delivery, to keep the doctor from cutting her. While she should be focusing on herself and what she needs to do to meet her new child she is, instead, heard begging the doctor to let her try to deliver on her own, wanting to … Keep Reading!!!
A birth advocacy group from Rome has come up with this genius video showing what it would be like if conception was treated the same way as birth is in most hospitals.
They nailed it! (yes, a sex pun)

Eleven-year-old Catilin Burke found herself acting as midwife for her baby sister’s birth, earlier this month. Her mother’s labor started as she was getting ready for school. Caitlin called an ambulance for her mom, Tara Knightley, but her little sister was in a hurry to meet her.
With some guidance, Caitlin caught Elsa-Monet, at 7:17am, as she entered the world. Caitlin then unraveled her sister from the cord, which she was wrapped in, and handed Elsa-Monet to her mother. … Keep Reading!!!
November 17 is World Day of Prematurity, a day set aside to recognize all babies born premature. One Quebec based premie advocacy group, PremaQuebec, partnered with photographer RedM to create a photo series titled “Les Prémas”, or “The Preemies”, in English. The concept is simple, photograph kids and adults who were born premies, holding photos of themselves in the NICU.
When you’re pregnant, there’s always a chance of things not going as planned. Usually a quick labor would still involve being close to your support, or at least having 911 on call. 30,000 feet in an air, over the Pacific Ocean you have none of that support. Luckily, for a mom-to-be on a recent flight from Taiwan to Los Angeles a pediatrician was returning from her honeymoon on the same flight.
Dr. Angelica Zen was coming back from Bali when … Keep Reading!!!
During the 3rd inning of the Padres-Giants game on Thursday night the real excitement was happening off the field where baby Levi was making sure his mother had a memorable birth story to share with the world.
Mom and Dad went to cheer on their team before their family expanded but Levi had other plans. Mom, who was 39 weeks pregnant, went into labour but didn’t make it out of stadium. Fortunately, Giant’s catcher and “sorta doctor” Buster Posey was … Keep Reading!!!

Not that long ago women birthed alone, only doctors and nurses trained to see such horrors were allowed to be with expectant moms. Men were in the waiting room, hands full of cigars, anxiously awaiting the doctor to come out and announce if they had a new daughter or son. He dared not see his wife in any state other than dolled up making his dinner. Friends and family waited at home for carrier … Keep Reading!!!
I’ve seen very pregnant women try to Gangnam or Nae Nae themselves into labour. I’ve seen women sway themselves through contractions or try to walk them off. Yuki Nishizawa decided to ride the waves of labour through dance and it actually makes labour look like fun.
The husband’s commentary is almost as great as the dancing itself. Congratulations to the couple on their new addition.… Keep Reading!!!
A Texas woman gave birth to her third baby, in the front seat of her car, while on the freeway. Her husband caught the entire event on video.
Reacting just as my husband would, the new father of three high fives his wife and then muses about if they can save money on paying for the birth center now.
Warning: While no nudity is seen, the video is unedited so if birth makes you uncomfortable I’d avoid clicking.
Congratulations to … Keep Reading!!!

Ever been in an argument about the causes of the increase in cesarean section rates in the U.S.? “But moms want them!” they say. “They’re too posh to push!” “And gestational diabetes! Babies are just too big now! They don’t fit!” “Women are too fat to give birth naturally!”
If you are the person on the receiving end of this commentary, or if you have made these assumptions yourself (Which is nothing to be … Keep Reading!!!
