Singer Jessie James Decker shares breastfeeding photos

Country/pop singer Jessie Jamies Decker shared a beautiful photo of herself breastfeeding her newborn baby boy on Facebook. Of course, she was met with some criticism because boobs scare people when they aren’t used in a sexual manner. Her response to the haters was to share another one a few hours later, making sure it was a close up.

The U.S.’s most generous parental leave bill introduced for the families of Washington D.C.

By: A.M., IANtB Science Editor

We don’t usually get political here, but since the U.S. is the only Western country without any form of paid parental leave, Jamie and I have both discussed our curiosity about its possible effects on breastfeeding success. In a 1999 article in Demography, Roe et al. demonstrated a positive correlation between parental leave and duration of breastfeeding.

So far, three states have instituted a paid parental leave policy. D.C.’s program would be the … Keep Reading!!!

See why this nurse breastfed her young patient through surgery

At Guangming Hospital in Shenzhen, China a 1-month-old baby boy was undergoing surgery to remove an abscess; a surgery that required only a local anesthetic, leaving the baby awake. The little boy was so panicked that he would not calm enough for the surgery to begin. The surgical team was about to cancel the surgery until one nurse stepped in.

McDonald’s is tricking your brain into thinking you’re breastfeeding

There may be actual science behind why McDonald’s milkshakes are so satisfying. The straws may be designed to mimic the flow of breastfeeding when you drink the milkshake. McDonald’s are geniuses!

this is the best

McDonald’s Japan founder wrote in his book, Den Fujita’s Business Strategies 2: Overwhelming Business Strategies, about the psychological game he plays on customers.

When humans drink something, the speed that produces the most delicious feeling is the speed at which babies nurse…McDonald’s straws are designed so that when

New ad campaign shames breastfeeding moms about their diets

A new photo series from the Pediatric Society of Rio Grande (SPRS)  is stirring up controversy and for good reason. What they claim is an attempt to encourage new moms to eat healthy actually comes off as shaming and guilting and encouraging moms to stop breastfeeding if they aren’t eating perfectly.

On the organization’s website they defend their campaign by speaking of the importance to educate and inform mothers about “procedures necessary for proper nutrition”. The whole campaign could be … Keep Reading!!!

Confessions of an Attachment-Parenting Nanny

By: Anonymous

I am a student who focuses on child development and parenting in an evolutionary context, so when I decided to become a nanny, I specifically sought out a family that practices evidence-based, “attachment”-style parenting. Since I am not a parent yet myself (suitable bachelors inquire within), I’ve heretofore only “practiced” attachment parenting principles in a peripheral sort of way (wearing my friends babies, etc). I am therefore super excited to finally have the chance to test the scientific … Keep Reading!!!

‘We are not “still” nursing, we are just nursing’

Standing in front of the mirror, right after a shower, seeing your every imperfection staring back at you from the fog covered glass. We’ve all done this. Just stood there wishing we could change this and that. Our bodies do so much for us and demonstrate immeasurable strength. Yet we spend so much time thinking about how we can look better, rather than celebrating who we are. While there are often outside pressures from media and other women, we tend … Keep Reading!!!

Active duty military moms help normalize breastfeeding

These military moms, stationed at Fort Bliss, gathered last week to participate in this beautiful photo shoot which was thoughtfully planned out by Tara Ruby Photography to celebrate the ability to be a military member and still enjoy the bond of breastfeeding.
