When Rachel Lim’s husband brought a microscope home from work, she decided to have some fun. She wanted to know what her breast milk looked like up close and what she saw is fascinating. The particles can be seen “moving and quivering”, as if they are alive. Of course, it’s not news that breast milk is alive; it’s full of bacterial cells, white blood cells and and stem cells. Scientists determined this long ago. To see it in action is … Keep Reading!!!

Photographer Suzie Blake wanted to do a photo project that showed the realities of what day to day breastfeeding looks like. She stripped away the make-up, the fancy hair, and the pretty backdrops to get real and raw. Suzie started with a self-portrait of an over tired-mom and reached out on Facebook looking for other moms to participate.

This project is about portraying breastfeeding in all its beautiful messiness. This is about tired eyes and no makeup. This is about

‘We are not “still” nursing, we are just nursing’

Standing in front of the mirror, right after a shower, seeing your every imperfection staring back at you from the fog covered glass. We’ve all done this. Just stood there wishing we could change this and that. Our bodies do so much for us and demonstrate immeasurable strength. Yet we spend so much time thinking about how we can look better, rather than celebrating who we are. While there are often outside pressures from media and other women, we tend … Keep Reading!!!

My Breastfeeding Photos

My parents had professional photos taken when I was 18 months old. I wanted to breastfeed in the middle of the session, and my mother obliged me. The photographer quietly snapped pictures while my parents were having a moment with me. They ended up loving the breastfeeding photos the most. To this day, a large framed photograph still hangs over one of their fireplaces in their home.

I love how my mother never made breastfeeding a dirty or secret act. … Keep Reading!!!
