Motherhood isn’t easy, especially for a new mom navigating her way through life while keeping another human being alive and well. It’s sticky, smelly, exhausting but, of course, well worth it.
Cartoonist, Alison Wong took it in stride and used her comics as an outlet. In the process, she created a series that every mother can relate to.
The internet is full of cute pictures of kids copying the world around them. It’s how they learn. So many of those are kids feeding dolls or siblings. None of these seem to cause issue, until a young boy pretends to breastfeeding his baby sibling.

When Rebecca, a mother of 3 from St. Catharines, Ontario, took her one year old to see Santa he got a little cranky waiting in line. As any nursing mom would do, Rebecca started nursing her son to comfort him. She joked that she should see if she could nurse him through the pictures. When the photographer and Santa were completely on board they went for it.
Photographer Suzie Blake wanted to do a photo project that showed the realities of what day to day breastfeeding looks like. She stripped away the make-up, the fancy hair, and the pretty backdrops to get real and raw.
