When police officers in Columbia got a call about a baby left in the woods Luisa Fernanda Urrea was one of the officers dispatched to the scene. They found a newborn girl crying in the undergrowth, with part of her umbilical cord still attached. The baby was hungry and at risk of hypothermia so Urrea, being a new mom herself, quickly swaddled and began nursing her.

It’s always great to celebrities being honest about the joys and struggles of breastfeeding their children. Naya Rivera, seen above sporting a beautiful bump at her baby shower, and her husband Ryan Dorsey welcomed their first child, Josey Hollis, into the world in September, Naya opened up to People about how breastfeeding is going.

At Guangming Hospital in Shenzhen, China a 1-month-old baby boy was undergoing surgery to remove an abscess; a surgery that required only a local anesthetic, leaving the baby awake. Standing in front of the mirror, right after a shower, seeing your every imperfection staring back at you from the fog covered glass. We’ve all done this. Just stood there wishing we could change this and that. Our bodies do so much for us and demonstrate immeasurable strength. Yet we spend so much time thinking about how we can look better, rather than celebrating who we are. While there are often outside pressures from media and other women, we tend … Keep Reading!!!

When I was pregnant with my first breastfeeding was a given to me. It just seemed like the normal thing to do and I never considered anything else. I was under the impression that it’s simple – latch baby – end of story. I set up no support system, I didn’t do any research.
At the hospital I was made to feel like I couldn’t do it until the nurse was there to “help” latch baby, … Keep Reading!!!

My almost 4 yr old daughter still nurses for a few minutes before her nap and bedtime. Occasionally she wants to nurse when she wakes up also. We don’t nurse in public anymore now that she’s older but I do share that information with other moms of toddlers when the subject comes up in conversation. Moms need to know that it is healthy and within the range of normal.
Did you practice child led weaning with your child? … Keep Reading!!!
My name is Amber Duncan. I am a 21 year old mother to a 12 month old boy, Joseph. In November of 2012, my husband and I found out I was pregnant. I was 19 and knew nothing about pregnancy or breastfeeding. After reading up on everything I needed to know, my husband and I decided breastfeeding was the right choice for us and our baby. I watched all the videos I could find … Keep Reading!!!
I remember the first time I heard that breastfeeding was kind of important. I was probably 18ish and the mom of a child I babysat was complaining about sore nipples. Why doesn’t she just use formula? I asked a friend a few days later. My friend (who was an aspiring doula) filled me in that breastfeeding was better. She started talking about antibodies and bonding while I went ahead and zoned out. Being 18 … Keep Reading!!!
Today is Monday July 28th, 2014. Last Tuesday night – July 22nd – Gerry had “muk” to go to sleep on the eve of his 5th birthday. I don’t remember much about it really. You would have thought that I would have paid more attention! After all he had been saying for months that when he was 5 he would stop nursing. I guess I was highly skeptical. Anyway, I do … Keep Reading!!!
