When police officers in Columbia got a call about a baby left in the woods Luisa Fernanda Urrea was one of the officers dispatched to the scene. They found a newborn girl crying in the undergrowth, with part of her umbilical cord still attached. The baby was hungry and at risk of hypothermia so Urrea, being a new mom herself, quickly swaddled and began nursing her.

Halfway through her pregnancy Sarah Whitney was diagnosed with breast cancer. At just 31-years-old the news filled her family with grief, but still expecting a new member brought joy to them and their 2 children, 6-year-old Pheonix and 7-year-old Corah and so there was a constant mix of emotion in the Whitney home.

My almost 4 yr old daughter still nurses for a few minutes before her nap and bedtime. Occasionally she wants to nurse when she wakes up also. We don’t nurse in public anymore now that she’s older but I do share that information with other moms of toddlers when the subject comes up in conversation. Moms need to know that it is healthy and within the range of normal.
