A wisdom tooth extraction arises if a tooth needs to be corrected from scratch or to prevent further worsening condition of the tooth. If your wisdom tooth has contracted an infection, it is advisable to have it removed before damaging the adjacent teeth. Most commonly, patients are treated for gum disease or tooth decay. This surgery is also performed in cases like red, swollen gum tissue due to outgrowth of a flap of skin. Early detection of the abnormality aids in proper diagnosis by an oral surgeon. No delay should be made in the commencement of the surgery.

Before The Surgery

Making the necessary preparations beforehand is absolutely essential. That is why it important to contact your dentist in Brisbane and schedule your appointment in advance. Make sure the date gives you enough time to recover from the after effects of the surgery. Stock up foods that are soft and easy to eat. Avoid buying foods that are extremely hot or extremely cold or hard to chew. Get your friend’s help to drive you back home and help you buy medicines.   Extracting teeth is usually a big task, most for patients than the dentist. It might suppose even a great psychological burden when it comes to wisdom teeth. However, there’s no need to be scared at all because all will be handle by professionals. It would be best for you to have some moral support from friends or family so you have fun despite the nervousness

During The Surgery

On the D-Day, be mentally prepared for the surgery. The thumb rule is not to eat any solid food at least 8 hours before the procedure. Speak to the oral surgeon about your insecurities if any, and clear your doubts. Local anaesthesia is administered by the dental practitioner first. Once sedated, you would not feel an ounce of pain in your mouth as the region becomes completely numb. Be patient and bear with the extraction calmly. Communicate with your surgeon using hand signals if you want to spit out saliva or blood or if you experience any discomfort. If seeing your own blood scares you, keep your eyes closed and stay composed. The entire removal procedure might be tedious, but remind yourself to hold up for the desired results.

After The Surgery

The actual deal of agony starts after the extraction procedure is complete. Do not displace the gauze from the surgical site for at least half an hour. This attempt interrupts the natural clotting of blood. Change the gauze pads periodically as they get soaked in blood. Primarily, take the dentist recommended dose of pills timely. Antibiotics are generally prescribed before sleeping for alleviation. Rinse your mouth in warm salt water time and again for instant relief. This helps in the healing process and reduces pain. Ice packs are a great source of comfort to prevent any plausible swelling. Place extra pillows under your head while sleeping as the elevation decreases the inflammation. Consuming cigarettes and alcohol is a strict no-no at least for the next 3 days. Also, avoid drinking through a straw as it. If your gums are still bleeding, apply tea bags at the affected area to ease the discomfort.

Follow-up

Regular visits to the dentist’s clinic are certainly required for at least 2 weeks after wisdom teeth removal in Brisbane. Thereafter, standard monthly check ups would do. A dentist will assess the progress of your treatment by examining the operated site. Then, stitches are removed and if any intermittent bleeding is still observed, the person is put on medication.
