Strategies For Stress-free Moving With Kids

Written by:  Jamie

Moving with the kids can sometimes be a very stressful affair. Most people’s idea of a stress-free move with their children involves their kids negated to the task of unpacking and packing their own things at the very least. Moving really doesn’t have to be as stressful and crazy as it often times is, especially when little kids are involved.

Herein, below are a few guidelines and tips you can follow in order to make your move as stress-free and easy for both you and your kids.

1. Planning

When you finally get to break the moving news to your family, try and explain to them why you guys are moving. Furthermore, give everyone sufficient space to react to that news as well as to share whatever they may be currently feeling about the whole situation. Kids are often times extremely sensitive. They can pick up on the mood quite easily, so try and maintain as positive of an outlook as you possibly can. Simultaneously, be as realistic as you can as well and avoid the temptation of overselling the move. That might just lead to you setting up your kids for disappointment. You’re better off simply expecting an intense process so prepare accordingly.

2. Packing

Moving happens to be an ideal opportunity for everyone that had been considering purging their house of clutter. Allow your kids to pack up their own individual spaces and rooms, or at least let them pack up a special box for their important items. Mark these boxes clearly so you can find them easily when you reach your new location. If you can, bring along with you the furniture that was previously in the kid’s bedrooms to your new house.

This familiarity will help with easing the kids into the new place in a calm way. Depending on how old they are, assign them with certain moving tasks involving them in the entire process. It will also help keep them occupied which is always a good way to reduce the stress they can bring sometimes when idle.

3. Unpacking

When you and your family arrive at the new location, take a little time to have some family exploration of the new home. Consider going to watch a movie or play a game to help lighten things up before getting down to the business of unpacking. Get your children situated in their bedrooms as fast as you can, not forgetting to remove their special boxes we mentioned a bit earlier. You can read a few experiences at MovingCompanyReviews.com if you’d like to get a picture of how the whole process can turn out. Just like with the packing procedure, assign your children unpacking duties as well, keeping them busy and at the same time easing your workload.

Moving for kids is most times all doom and gloom and they’re never really into the move at first. This unwelcoming mood they often times have at the get-go is what can end up causing you a lot of additional stress. Your main objective should always be to infuse these feelings with positive outlooks about the move in general and things should be fine. Hopefully, this article has helped you see that.
