In a recently recorded interview with Katie Couric, Canada’s “first lady”, Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau, speaks candidly about a variety of issues. Near the end of the interview, Katie mentions Sophie’s recent interview in Chatelaine, which seems to have gone mostly unnoticed. In this interview, Sophie mentions that she is currently nursing her two-year-old son Hadrien.
Katie starts by asking how she feels about the fact extended breastfeed seems to incite all kinds of opinions within the US, to which Sophie casually shrugged it off. When pressed to state an opinion on the issue Sophie gave the most relaxed response.
I do have thoughts on that issue. I think it’s a woman’s choice. I breastfed my three babies, I also gave them formula. I don’t judge what your decision is.

She continues to discuss her interest in women’s health and how that extends to the breastfeeding relationship
[There’s] scientific proof that breast milk is amazing. So if I can continue to feed my child even if he’s two, I’m not going to stop if he wants it. I think it’s a beautiful bond. I encourage it.
