Respect in Humanitarian Work

I love this definition of Philanthropy Wikipedia has:

“Philanthropy etymologically means “love of humanity” in the sense of caring for, nourishing, developing, and enhancing “what it is to be human”—on both the benefactors’ (by identifying and exercising their values in giving and volunteering) and beneficiaries’ (by benefitting) parts. The most conventional modern definition is “private initiatives, for public good, focusing on quality of life.”‘ –Wikipedia

To embrace and support humanity, we need to always remember to have a deep respect and love for one another. Philanthropy is about community; it is not a socially privileged hand-out. I would go further and say it is not even about aid. If someone is given the upper-hand or there is a hierarchy in a community setting, that is not true philanthropy.

Philanthropy is Respect and Love of One Another.
