Plush Robes: How to Choose the Right Fabric

Written by:  Jamie

Plush robes are one of the hottest gift items right now and have also been in demand for personal use. They are one the best wears after all when your pampering yourself in a spa, a pool, or even right at your living room. Not all plush robes, however, are made the same. Some plush robes will feature fabric that will not always agree with a wearer’s skin type, by how much they sweat, or their fashion sense. In this regard, this article will try to enumerate each of the fabric that you can choose from so you can get that perfect relaxing plush robe experience that you have been owing to yourself.

Microfiber Robes

Microfiber is a form of textile that is manufactured through the creation of fibers that are so thin that it even human hair is thicker – sixteen times thicker in fact. Because of the way that they are made, they overtook silk as the finest clothing material out there. And despite packing layers upon layers of these fibers upon robes, they can be quite breathable and lighter than any of the fibers that are being sold today be it natural or artificial.
There are two ways to create fabric from microfiber. Since it is strong enough despite how thin it is, it can be woven in patterns to form a suede finished fabric. This way, the final plush robe will look and feel as luxurious as it can be. In fact, it will almost feel like you are wearing a silk nightgown. The other way is to put it into a splitting process that will create millions of “micro loops”. Using this, it can emulate just about any of the most absorbent plush robes out there without compromising comfort and further enhancing its lightweight profile. A microfiber robe allows its wearer to carry on its day of pampering, moving freely without feeling any hindrance whatsoever. And because they provide appropriate protection from the elements, these plush robes can be worn all throughout the year.

Because these microfibers have been a recent development of fabric engineering and material science, it might not be as widely available as plush robe shoppers might have hoped. And because of the cost of manufacturing one, it may come as no surprise to many that microfiber robes are quite pricey compared to other options.

Spa Robes

If you frequent spas, you might have been already experienced one of these glorious spa robes. And if you thought that buying one might set you back more dollars than you might have hoped, then you might not be wrong. Spa robes is a combination of microfibers as the main material covering the inner lining of the plush robe and an extension of cotton terry lining to prevent your skin from feeling that rough edge. It is truly a combo meant to have the best of both worlds to create a magnificent plush robe.

The robe features allow for both maximum absorption with the microfiber and a sleek suede look for fashionability. Because they are quite pricey, these plush robes are not generally something that one buys for himself/herself thus making for a perfect gift. Think about giving away these robes to your special loved one as a present for a wedding, anniversary, birthday, valentines day, mother’s day or to simply remind him/her that you care. Same as the microfiber plush robes, spa robes are new to the market as well.

These robe features in spa houses simply because they are the best ones that they can give their guests and if you want to get your hand in one, some of these spa houses are selling them as well. Be wary however as the prices can vary greatly with these kinds of robes especially since the specific look that the spa robe gives are easily copied. Top of the line spa robes can be distinguished however. The trick is to look for extra details and trimmings that are delicately made to ensure that you are going to get the most of what you are going to pay for.

Cotton Waffle Robes

Waffle weave cotton can be easily picked out because of its noticeable squared or diamond patterns. As an average priced yet still appreciable plush robe, it is common to find these robes being given as corporate gifts and as the robe that are used at hotels. You can often find these robes sold at department stores at massive volumes.

Cotton is naturally absorbent so it is one thing that you would be guaranteed to have when choosing to buy one of these robes. There are some pitfalls however that you have to be mindful of before buying. For instance, as it is made from 100% cotton, it is naturally going to shrink at some point in time and by then you might be forced to buy a new one. But by using pre-shrunk treatments on these robes you can greatly limit this effect. Another negative that you may notice when buying this robe is that they can be quite heavy and bulky which makes it  terrible for using when it in a warm environment as it can unbreathable.

Cashmere Robes

This is the holy grail of all plush robes and is made with the finest material – cashmere. Because cashmere is quite expensive, it is thus apparent that these robes can be too rich for most tastes. This might not be the most functional robe however as they lack the absorbency required of any plush robe. Another drawback is that these robes are very difficult to clean. The only way to wash them, in fact, is to have them dry cleaned. But through all its faults, there is a reason why they are coveted. Because it is made of cashmere, they feel heavenly to touch as if you are being held tightly like a baby. If you have enough dough and looking for an ultimate spa experience at home, then this might be just the right plush robe for you.
