We would like to announce the beginning of a new project, jointly run by Tracy from Evolutionary Parenting, Abby from The Badass Breastfeeder, Kayla from Baby’s Breastie, and Kendall and me here on I Am Not the Babysitter – The Extended Breastfeeding Project (www.TheExtendedBreastfeedingProject.com – site coming soon).
The overarching goal of this project is to help normalize and put an end to the common misconceptions surrounding “extended” breastfeeding (we use this term simply because it … Keep Reading!!!
When I was about 6 years old, I remember my mom was watching the news and a story came on about a mother who gave her child one of her kidneys. I asked my mom, “What if I needed a kidney?” I knew what she would say.
“I would give you one of mine, of course!” My wheels were still turning…
“What if I needed a new heart?” Being an inquisitive child, I was trying to stump my mom. … Keep Reading!!!
My friend Sara and I were chatting a couple days ago about our thoughts on being breastfed past infancy. I brought up the positive experiences I had while being breastfed into my early childhood years (I weaned around the 5th or 6th year of life, but the process is so slow no one really remembers my exact age). Anyone making the argument against extended breastfeeding (breastfeeding past infancy) has a hard time debating with current parents who were also parented … Keep Reading!!!

Phase two of our water project in Ethiopia is going to be implemented in early March! Our goal is to bring water to 12,000 people and also to start a pilot water program with the fistula project.
(See what we did during Phase one)
Fayye Foundation Staff member, Kayla Dar, and her husband, Omar, have put together a fundraiser for our March project.
The fundraiser will be held in Houston at Lucy Ethiopian Restaurant and … Keep Reading!!!
Today we took the boys to Abalone Cove to view their tidepools (best ever!) We soon learned this area is also an unofficial nude beach. It was a bit cold, so we didn’t stumble across any lawbreakers. However, there was a woman breastfeeding her baby under this sign. I didn’t want to bother her for a photo, even though it would have been an awesome shot.… Keep Reading!!!
Here is our first featured dad of the “Real Men of Attachment Parenting” series!
His wife, Allison, writes a blog. She had this to say about her “Real Man of Attachment Parenting”:
“This is my husband Mogens with our daughter Elisa Alice. My daughter was probably three months in the picture, but she is 8 1/2 months now. Obviously, this is not his regular workout routine, but he’s a baby wearing, proud AP papa! He’s so amazingly … Keep Reading!!!
I am so excited to announce our weekly series “The Real Men of AP”.
Most of you have seen Maria Magher‘s AP Ryan Gosling memes circulating on Facebook. They. Are. Awesome.
However, we wanted to give “AP Ryan Gosling” a little competition: the real dads of the attachment parenting community.
Once a week, we will post a photo with a short bio of the man behind the photo. They will all be real AP dads doing … Keep Reading!!!

HLN invited me to write an article about the lessons I’ve learned this past year: http://www.hlntv.com/article/2012/12/31/time-magazine-breastfeeding-cover-jamie-grumet
The Today Show also allowed us to talk about this year, including the water project.
Some other lessons I’ve taken from 2012:

This past week, my mom got my boys hooked on I Love Lucy. I’ve seen every episode, but it has been years since I’ve watched the show. I think what struck me about the show is that it is clear it is very funny, but the underlying differences in culture prove that not much has changed. It seems we are a bit more muted in outwardly showing specific views (like sexism), but it is still there.
One of the most … Keep Reading!!!
I receive a lot of really wonderful and relevant questions that I realize I am going to have to start asking other mothers to give their input and wisdom, because I don’t think I have enough experience with any of these topics to give advice.
I’m going to address three of the most common questions I am asked so that I can explain why may not be much help to others…
Natural Birth
