Occupational Hazards of a Hippie

meme1

So, it all started when I was doing what good hippie moms do for their children: Eat their kids’ Easter candy. (All the fun is in the hunt anyway).

The kids were in bed and I was digging into the organic treats and watching Mad Men, nonchalantly placing my hand in the bag and, by feel, sifting through the plastic eggshells and the candy pieces I wanted.

I pulled up what I thought was a hard shelled candy that … Keep Reading!!!

Why We Should Embrace the “Extreme Parenting” title

27269_425111304225225_1671776493_n

Probably before, but ever since Time Magazine’s “Mom Enough” cover came out, people have been labeling parenting practices that are similar to or in alignment with “attachment parenting” as extreme. Most of us laughed it off because there was a clear disconnect between what the families’ lives were actually like in these “extreme parenting” scenarios and what society thought went on in their homes. It was (and still is) such a foreign concept to so many Americans, that the general … Keep Reading!!!

Extreme Parenting: Embracing Sensationalism

He’d like you to think that, of course.

The truth is, if some bold soul really did say something negative to his face, he would jump at the chance to teach the person why he parents the way he does.

Breastfeeding: nyangatom tribe

The Nyangatom tribe resides in Ethiopia’s Omo Valley.

They are known for  for their heavy (beautiful) necklaces.

Women wear the necklaces with long goatskin skirts.

Breastfeeding is celebrated, and given the culture’s attire, babies seem pretty happy about the easy access to their mother’s milk. 🙂… Keep Reading!!!

Breastfeeding & Formula Feeding on TV: Southland

meme5

If anyone watches Southland on TNT you probably saw the beginning episodes (of the most recent season) covered the topic of breastfeeding as an active duty police officer.
The character Lydia is an LAPD detective who recently gave birth to a baby. As a single mother and an active duty police officer, they portray her frustration as she attempts to breastfeed and quickly realizes her life situations make her desire to breastfeed almost impossible.

I think the writers … Keep Reading!!!

Spiritual Warfare

Ageism | Opinions: EVERYone has one.

meme1I got a message from an elementary school teacher from the private christian school I attended.

Apparently, she’s not a fan of the blog.

“What travesty has happened to you since 5th grade that you are often so critical of others, yet seem to think that everyone wants and needs to hear your opinion. I am just saddened by so many young adults who feel that they speak/write everything perfectly and with wisdom. It might be that sometimes your words

Guard your light and protect it. Move it forward into the world and be fully confident that if we connect light to light to light, and join the lights together of the one billion young people in our world today, we will be enough to set our whole planet aglow.

Text Messages from a Four Year Old

Aram asked for my phone the other night, and had his first text conversation.

He was so excited to be able to have access to Brian when he was at work…. up until Brian told him it was time to bed, then he wasn’t so keen on texting him anymore! 😉

I never thought texting could be useful learning tool, but reading and spelling action is definitely happening .  I am not thinking I should start embracing modern technology for … Keep Reading!!!

United in Tragedy

Did anyone see this video of the Boston Bruins first home game since the bombings?  The crowd sings loudly and in unison together. An extremely moving moment that shows how tragedies unite us. How wonderful it would be if we kept those moments as reminders, to stay united the during easy and happy times, as well.
