I want to encourage all adoptive parents to consider journaling to their child(ren)’s birth mother/father. Even if you don’t believe the parent will ever be able to see your letters, it may one day be a comfort to your child when he or she is older. Also, it is nice to get down in writing some of your thoughts and struggles regarding the absence of the biological family.
Plus, you may never know. One day that journal may very well … Keep Reading!!!
I wanted to share this amazing family photo captured by Lori Dorman when we were in Ethiopia.
Pictured are Samuel’s brothers, sister, and mother/ama. The resemblance he bears to all of them is unquestionable.
It’s the one time of year that women can dress like strippers and men can dress as women and no one bats an eyelid. Frankly, I think there is an awesome element to that.
However, the lack of diversity is where my issues lie. Disney Princess as an adult? Here are your top choices…
I soon realized you can get ANY costume in a sexy version.
Here are the most entertaining:

Well, it happened. Brian had his first interview.
We received an email a few weeks ago for an interview request. What made us excited was it wasn’t for me, it was for Brian! They wanted to get his views on AP. This is the first time anyone has ever asked to talk to him about it.
“It’s about damn time!” Brian said. I agreed. We were excited and said yes before we had time to really let … Keep Reading!!!
Well, it happened. Brian donated his hair. It happened unexpectedly, so there are no photos before or during the big chop.
It was pretty cool to find out that Brian’s curly locks were deceiving us. Those ringlets when straightened were almost longer than my hair! Brian was about at the end of his patience with growing it and found out he had to cut it for his job, so he was quite relieved when we found out he had … Keep Reading!!!
It seems everyone and their mother has a blog these days. Some people love that and some people hate the abundance of blogs on the internet. I personally think it is great. I don’t understand why anyone that blogs thinks they have some kind of set claim on the blogging world. A blog is a personal website, anyone can (and should) have one if they want.
Blogs serve so many purposes. It is interesting to me to see how … Keep Reading!!!
It has come to my attention that many people are deterred by working with groups of people on specific humanitarian projects because they think the mood is too somber. It makes sense, because when people come back and present what they’ve done in various areas of the world they are actually wanting to show the hard work they’ve done, and they are less likely to show the random video of their roommate at 2 AM getting assistance in the … Keep Reading!!!
You know what I hate? When you have to see something someone else is going through before you put things into perspective and appreciate what you have.
Yesterday I took the kids to Disneyland for a few hours of fun. I was sidetracked by other work I was attending to during the day (I received 15 calls in 10 minutes at one point) and was not being present with the boys.
To make matters worse it was raining pretty … Keep Reading!!!
Attachment Parenting…So many people do this, some label it and some do not. Just like in my previous post that I wrote with the influence from Jamie, Attachment Parenting starts between a husband and a wife but the most impact you can have is when you show your child / children that … Keep Reading!!!
When my first child was born, I joined a local moms’ support group. One of the big things everyone kept going on and on about was Moms’ Night Out and its importance for keeping mom sane, having fun, enjoying your time, saving the planet, and promoting world peace.
I was talking to my friend the other day about how she was led to her career as a social worker because of her heart for children. It evolved into a conversation about what life experiences helped to shape our passions in life. Unlike my friend, my passion is not as much for children as it is for mothers – which ultimately benefits children. With my own children, or children living at the center without parents, I have a close … Keep Reading!!!
It’s the end of a long, rainy morning; we have waited in lines and in traffic. We enter the house, damp and cold, jackets hit the floor and shoes fly. Small feet are running wild. The block tower in the middle of the carpet gets leveled with one precise kick and baby is startled. Cries, screams, whining – Three little creatures need me – now! It’s time to squelch the chaos.
How to reconnect with three little ones, at once, … Keep Reading!!!
