I wasn’t sure what to expect when we arrived in Cape Town. Many people have told me it is their favorite city in the world, but there were others, (who maybe have never visited) who were telling us how dangerous the city was and that we needed to be very careful.
When we landed, I was surprised how much Cape Town looked like various parts of California. I saw Big Sur, Santa Barbara, Napa, and other … Keep Reading!!!
We’ve been pretty dedicated here to supporting international small businesses. Nearly all of our advertisements on this page come from small businesses, primarily handmade items, and mostly items we’ve found on Etsy.
To celebrate Jamie’s last few days in South Africa, we’re hosting a giveaway for a product by a South Africa jewelry artist. We very rarely hold giveaways here, so you know this is a big deal. This piece is valued at $50.00.

My husband Rowland is amazing and I know you’ve received lots of emails about amazing men, but my hubby tops them.
Rowland is a step-dad to my two children, now 3 and 4. He came into the game never having dated, not having his own kids, and completely excited to take on the challenges.
Once he met my kids, they all

Making time for yourself when you’re a mom can be really difficult. Whether you have a newborn, toddler, or school-aged child, the fact is that kids engage their parents a significant amount of the day. When Aram was a few months old, I discovered the importance of taking time for myself. Even if it was a relatively short amount of time, I needed it. I think all mothers do.
I know, not that crazy. … Keep Reading!!!
This week we’re celebrating Tim Nelis as our Real Man of Parenthood.
His wife, Sara, hit the jackpot in this guy. In this picture below, he is wearing their first son, Bennet, in an Ergo. Bennet is three here. They adopted Bennet at 2 years old and used baby-wearing to encourage attachment. Baby-wearing helped to teach him that he was theirs and to let him know that he was home, not in another foster placement that would end. Tim often … Keep Reading!!!
I really want to encourage families who are interested in traveling internationally with their children. As I mentioned, although Brian and my worst fear of traveling with kids came true this trip, we really can’t find any reason to fear it anymore. Although having Aram sick was so sad for him and we hated him not being able to enjoy everything to the fullest, he still had a great time, and we felt so safe.
Before taking a trip, Brian and I always discuss our concerns with the areas, especially when the kids are also coming with us.
With any trip, our biggest concern seems to be illness, because it is not only extremely stressful to be sick in an unfamiliar area, but also can be extremely dangerous if you don’t know where or who to go to for aid.
“An illiterate, impoverished daughter of freed slaves built the largest black-owned business in America, made a fortune, and touched thousands with her philanthropy.” – PBS’s “Who Made America”.
One of my role models is Sarah Breedlove Walker, and the border between black history month and women’s history month is the perfect time to gush about her. Because she made her fortune in Indianapolis (where I grew up), she has always been a hero to me. She is a fantastic role … Keep Reading!!!

If that picture doesn’t simply melt your heart, I don’t know what will. Way to go, Daddy! Your connection with your baby is precious.
Well, what can one expect on game drives?
The day we arrived at the lodge we were eager to go on a game drive. We took in the views from our room, splashed water on our faces, and rushed back to the common space to meet for tea … Keep Reading!!!
