Nursery Room Decorating Ideas

Written by:  Rex

Have you a baby on the way and need some home ideas? There are numerous themes that you can bring to your baby’s room with just a little bit of thought and imagination.

Types of Nurseries

A baby’s room can be simple, or chock full of decorations. Either way, you can make it just the way you like it! Here are a few home ideas to get you started.

Fixtures

A bookcase built into the wall can house toys, stuffed animals, bottles, and other necessary baby items within easy reach. And, year upon year, it is already in place for board games and homework materials. As the baby grows, the space is modified without need to change the whole room again, saving time and effort in the long run.

Walls

A scenic panorama making its way across the walls, gives a delightful touch to baby’s room. With little effort, the scene can be updated through the years as the child’s imagination grows. Various wallpapers are easily found to match the personality of your little one.

For a group of dinosaurs making their way through a forest or munching on leaves, potted plants in the corners add a realistic touch to a jungle scene. While on the other hand, a set of tracks marching from one wall to another might be enhanced with a small shelf housing a train station and engine with a few cars. Likewise, an ocean scene may be created, with waves rolling from one wall to another and boats may be glued, giving the whole scene a three dimensional feel. The crib may have the façade of a steam ship or island. Boats may be made of paper or foam and attached to the walls to offer a stimulating picture, transforming a simple room into a whole world within itself.

Self- adhesive contact paper creates little vignettes, should you wish to have more than one design throughout the room. This way of decorating also reduces the chance of overwhelming those first walking into the room.

Many stores have wallpaper and accoutrements that are all ready to put in place. Stencils are easily found in crafting stores and other materials to transform a wall into a masterpiece.

Other Ideas

Themed furniture that accents the scene creates an entire atmosphere. These can be found at furniture stores or online with just a quick search.

Bedding themes help complete the room. A mobile hanging above baby’s crib allows the child’s imagination to grow while offering a toy to spin and encouraging him or her to stand. Room dividers, such as those found at Target, made in the traditional Japanese-style, give you the ability to change the room on a whim, so you never tire of the same scene.
