On Sunday we went to the Los Angeles Natural History Museum to see their Butterfly Exhibit!

The Butterfly Pavilion was created for observation, education, and research. As each butterfly dies, the researchers will mark and record the data to determine the natural lifespan of each species. I have to say, I am not sure how reliable the data from this project will be. There were at least a few casualties during the thirty minutes we spent in the exhibit. Nothing intentional- there are butterflies and caterpillars everywhere! The problem is they like to rest on the warm walkway. We were cautioned ahead of time, but a couple of the two-year-olds in our group may not have been aware of the warning.
Squashed butterflies aside, The Butterfly Pavilion is definitely worth a visit. I personally have never experienced such an abundance of vibrant butterflies in one small area. The boys were captivated, and even my husband (who appeared the size of the hulk in the pavilion) seemed awestruck by the surroundings. Expect butterflies landing on you shoulders and swarming around the beautiful flower bushes.
