Must-Know Hacks for Every Mom Wanting to Start a Business

Written by:  Rex

Being a mom is a full-time job, but sometimes we need a side hustle to fulfil our other passions and bring a little extra into the bank. Starting your own business and becoming a mompreneur can be daunting but an extremely rewarding task to take on too.

If you want to start a new business and have it bloom, while still taking the best possible care of your little ones, here are a few business-savvy productivity hacks to know beforehand.

Use the Internet

The greatest advantage of the times we live in is that starting a business doesn’t have to mean you’re out of the house from 9-5 every day. On the contrary, you can start and run your business entirely from your home which means you’ll still be able to be there for your kids.

Running your business (selling products, offering services, you name it) from a website is the easiest way to manage business and mom life, but don’t forget that your online presence will need to be a top priority.

Remember, you can make your website look fabulous for minimal costs and design a logo online, free.

Become a Planner

If you’re used to waking up and letting each day take you wherever it might take you, this is going to have to change.

Being a diligent planner and organiser is a key factor in running a successful business. You’ll need to know what needs to be done throughout the week (both for your mom life and business life) and schedule out your days efficiently to make sure you get the most out of your time.

Investing in a daily or weekly planner could be a great help to you.

Capitalise on Time

Understanding your schedule as well as your kids’ schedules will help you to spend your waking hours wisely.

If your kids are older and spend a good few hours at school, make sure that you use these hours to get loads of work done. This will allow you to spend more time with them in the afternoons when they come home from school and need you to be present.

On the other hand, if your kids are younger, you might need to use evenings and naptimes for the majority of your work.

Write it Down

Our brains were never designed to hold on to every little thought that shows up. Writing things down will help you to stay on top of everything and also let you rest at ease knowing there’s nothing you’ve forgotten.

Having a notebook that you carry with you, or a note on your phone where you can quickly jot down ideas, tasks, events, reminders or even inspiration can be a real game-changer.

Take Time for You

Even though a side hustle can be exciting and very time consuming, it’s important to remember to take care of your health and wellness too. Constantly splitting yourself between the roles of Mom, business owner, significant other, housekeeper, etc, can be draining and lead to burnout very quickly.

Schedule in some me-time regularly to make sure you’re keeping up.
