Master Your Misfortunes

Written by:  Jamie

Accidents and issues pop up now and then in our lives. For some people, facing adversity is like second nature and they know how to deal with it both emotionally and practically. However, for others, misfortune can feel like a heavy burden that pushes you against the ground and doesn’t let you up. Fortunately, you can master your misfortunes and not only deal with them efficiently but also turn them into motivational boosts that will help you with your daily life.

It’s alright to overreact

Misfortune can range from something that hurts you on a personal level, or something that shakes your world and can cause debilitating stress. However, it’s important to remember that no matter what situation you’re in, it’s fine to overreact and let it out. Punch a pillow, cry, rant to your friends or even treat yourself to a nice meal with your partner. You have to cope with whatever has happened, which makes it alright to indulge yourself or scream a little just to get it out of your system.

Accept what has happened

It will take some time to accept what just happened. Be it a sudden breakup, an injury that has left you in hospital or being fired from a job. You need to grasp the situation, accept what has happened and then prepare yourself for the future. After the initial overreaction and talk with your friends or family members, you can’t remain in denial about what happened.

Dealing with the problem

You have to find ways to deal with the issues after the initial period of grief or annoyance. For instance, if you’ve been rejected by someone you liked, then you have to get over that and look for someone else. If you’ve lost your job, then you have to find a new one. If you are suffering an injury, then take some time off work so that you can heal both mentally and physically before getting back to work.

Asking for help is alright

Whether it’s asking a friend or neighbour to pick up your children because you’re bed bound or asking for a favour from a family member, it’s fine to ask for help when you’re feeling down. You could even ask for professional help. For example, if it was a work injury that you have suffered, you can contact a lawyer such as SiebenCarey to help you deal with the case. Not only will it help you reduce your stress, you might even be happy to learn that you could receive compensation for your emotionally and physical stress.

Distract yourself

If your misfortunes are constantly popping up and affecting your life, then it’s time to find a distraction. Be it watching your favourite TV series back to back or playing video games with your friends, you have to find a way to keep yourself occupied so that your mind doesn’t drift back into depression. Your friends can play a major role in helping you to recover, so seek comfort with them and take your mind off it.
