Living a Nomadic Lifestyle in 2018 – Beginner’s Guide

Written by:  Jamie

The number of people who are considering a nomadic lifestyle as an option is on the rise, and this trend will probably continue even in the year before us. There’s no wonder about it, not really, especially if we take into account its allure and ideology that is flexible and allow an individual to live and work basically anywhere.

On the other hand, a nomadic lifestyle comes with its own set of obstacles and perks, with a creation of a steady income stream being the most challenging among them. And whether we like to admit it or not, this a basis for a satisfying, anxiety-free life. Therefore, we suggest you explore the whole idea thoroughly, just before you determine whether it’s the right choice for you. Believe it or not, one can easily misplace a nomadic lifestyle for love for wandering and nature, and this is something which can be easily solved by trying out cowboy or biker dating, for instance. And you don’t even have to quit your job! Joking aside, read the following paragraphs to see if it could actually work for you.

Funding a Nomadic Lifestyle

This is definitely a number one question that should be the utmost priority for anyone who considers becoming a nomad. Namely, there are various types of jobs that you can do in order to ensure steady incomes but don’t get fooled that it’s all the land of milk and honey since being a nomad requires some extraordinary budgeting skills. Moreover, you ought to become fully conscientious about your costs and incomes since this will allow you to come up with a proper strategy that will help you choose the right type of job, based on your personal needs. Nomads are usually satisfied with less than average people yet finances are something that must be solved, especially if you’re adventurous and love changing locations rapidly so savings may actually come to save your day in certain situations.

Choosing the right type of job

With so many thriving economies and numerous countries that are developing at fast pace, it’s not as easy to find amazingly paid seasonal jobs that can allow you to have longer breaks between the gigs as it used to be. This can be a real pain, especially if you’re a type of person who’s not a stranger to working their ass off for a couple of months which consequently allows you to have more time to explore the country or place that you’re currently living in, at your own pace and without a pressure from society, with its strict 9-5 workdays. On the other hand, if you’re totally okay with less is more parole, seasonal jobs can still be a great way to live your nomadic dreams since there are still farms, hotels, and spas that are offering bed and food in exchange for work. The number of digital nomads, on the other hand, keeps growing since there are countless location-independent, online freelancing jobs that can definitely earn you a pretty penny, especially if you’re skilled with programming, graphic design, Internet marketing etc. This can be a viable option for sure. You just need to figure it out what works for you and then stick to your individual plan.

Minimalist Mindset might be more Important than ever

A minimalist mindset usually goes hand in hand with a nomadic lifestyle and this is not a coincidence whatsoever. Traditional lifestyle is usually preoccupied with making money and stacking up personal belongings while a nomadic lifestyle is great for everyone who wants to experience a liberation from material stuff and thus enjoy other aspects of life. For instance, being a nomad allows one to explore various cities and countries while accumulating valuable experiences about specific cultures, a way of life and people in general. Buddhism is usually a religion that goes well with nomadic ideology, as it teaches us to let go of our material belongings. And given the fact that we’re living in the age of ever-growing consumerism, it’s important to maintain this specific view on life since it can help us live our nomadic lives to the fullest, without overly worrying about unnecessary and trivial things.
