Kids Friendly baking/cooking equipment for every kitchen

Written by:  Jamie

Cooking or baking with your kids can turn out to be a lot of fun but you have to be very careful so as to not let your kids get hurt. If possible, always read Kitchen Kickstart product reviews before purchasing to fully understand the product durability, especially when ordering online. Many kitchen equipment are not safe for kids’ use. So, it is important that you hand them only those utensils which are safe or kid-friendly.

Here is a list of baking/cooking equipment that you can let your kids use in order to help you cook and bake.

Measuring Spoons and Cups

Any kitchen without measuring spoons and cups is an incomplete kitchen. So if you are getting your kids involved in your kitchen then giving them access to the measuring spoons and cups would be a good choice.

Make sure that you only provide them with plastic or stainless steel measuring utensils so that they don’t accidentally break. Remember,  glass utensils can break easily and can injure your kids if you aren’t careful.

Rolling Pin

Yes, rolling pins are also safe for the kids to use. Just make sure that you give them a rolling pin which is small sized and will be convenient for them to use. They can then use it to prepare dough for bread and other baked items like cookies, pizzas, etc. to further improve their learning. Preparing the dough beforehand can be achieved by hand, but by using trusty dough mixers you’ll have the dough prepared within minutes, which gives your more time to be creative when deciding how to decorate the product.

Cutting Board

If you are teaching your kids to chop up vegetables and fruits then, getting a cutting board will be a smart option. Make sure that you get a non-skid cutting board so that your child can move the board as per his/her convenience. Also, you won’t have to worry about them accidentally cutting themselves in the process.

Mixing Bowls

Mixing bowls are easy and safe to handle, especially if they have rubber handles which makes it easy to hold them tightly. You can purchase a stainless steel bowl or a plastic bowl, both will be safe to use. Both these materials don’t break so your kid can safely use it to mix vegetables or prepare batter.

You can also get mixing bowls in different sizes so your child can use the size which is easier for him to manage.

Safety Knife/Butter Knife

One of the most important tools that your kid will require in the kitchen is a knife to cut up the fruits and vegetables. However, a normal kitchen knife can be sharp and can accidentally hurt your kid. So, instead of giving them a normal knife, buy a safety or a butter knife for them to use.

This knife will be able to cut up most fruits and vegetables, keeping your child protected, as it has blunt edges. Sounds like a win-win situation right?

Apron and Towels

A basic kitchen equipment that all kids should own and use is an apron which will protect their clothes from getting dirty. This will allow them to prepare snacks whenever they want without increasing laundry for you.

Also, the dish towels will help them clean up the kitchen so that you don’t have to work on it later on.

Hand Mixer

Another important baking/cooking tool that every kid should know how to use is a hand mixer. Hand mixers will make it easier for them to prepare their desert batter and are quite safe to use as well. However, get them an electric hand mixer only after you are sure that they can handle a non-electric mixer well.

Also, you will find several handle mixer models in the market which are built especially for kids so you can consider these as well. If you want to know more about such hand mixers do visit https://kitchenguyd.com/best-hand-mixer-reviews/

Pots with Silicone Handles

If your kid is going to help you cook in the kitchen then they are quite likely going to need some pots and pans to put on the stove as well. So, it would be a good idea to get a few sets of small-sized pots and pans which include a silicone handle. This will prevent the handles from getting hot, making it safe for your kids to hold.

Small Wire Whisks

Keep a small wire whisk in your kitchen for the kids to use. Whisks are comparatively safe to use and are really helpful in the baking recipes. You can teach your kids how to whisk the eggs or mix the baking ingredients together with the help of a wire whisk.

Also, make sure that you provide your kids with a small-sized whisk as it will be easier for them to manage than an overly sized whisk.

Small Silicone Spatulas

This is yet another kid-friendly baking equipment that all kitchens should have. A silicone spatula will make it easier to mix together the ingredients and will be amazingly resilient. It will get into all the corners to get the mixture out of the bowl, making it efficient to prepare batter and mixtures. It is also simple to operate so your kids won’t find it hard to use in the kitchen.

Graters

Let’s face it, your kids will want to grate vegetables or cheese once in a while. So, it will be wise to get a grater which is safe for them to use and won’t slip while they are using it. It would be advisable to go for graters which have a handle to reduce the risk of slipping.

Also, a box grater is generally safer to use than a hand-held grater. However, it would be better if you only let them use a grater in your presence as a precaution.

Oven Mitts

Another kid-friendly kitchen equipment that you can make accessible to your kids are the oven mitts. This will be helpful to them when they are baking with you and need to take out the cake, muffins, cookies, etc. from the oven.

It will protect their fragile hands from getting hurt in the process and will give them a feel of self-baking too.

Cake Tins

Make sure that your kitchen consists of quick-release cake tins as this will make it easier for your kid to transfer their baked good from the oven to the cooling rack. You can also invest in a few non-stick bakeware so that your child doesn’t have to scrape the stuck-on batter from the baking tin.

Baking Sheet

If your kid loves baking a lot then providing them with the baking sheet is a good way to encourage them to bake more. A baking sheet is simple and easy to use and ensures that there are no stuck-on bits left on the baking tin.

An Ending Note….

Yes, there are many dangerous tools in your kitchen. But, if you are careful then you can let your kids help you with the kitchen work without getting hurt. So, make sure you make the above-mentioned tools easily accessible to them and keep dangerous items far from their reach. And, just enjoy cooking with your kids!
