Well, this is a bit surprising.
According to the Social Security Administration data on popular baby names, Khaleesi has become a popular baby name for girls. (In 2012 alone it beat out “Lily.”)
In case you haven’t followed the books or the HBO series, Khaleesi is a term created for a character in the story. The character’s name happens to be Daenerys, which also made the SSA list, but only 21 babies were given that name in 2012.
This baby name pop culture phenomenon is not uncommon…
Whenever there is a release of a movie or TV show featuring strong characters, there is a rise in popularity of the characters’ names. Media gives the name familiarity and a positive association with a strong character.
