Looking after our teeth is something that we should all learn to do from a very early age. Getting ourselves into the habit of excellent oral hygiene is one way to ensure that your teeth will remain shining and white, for many years. With practice you can have your routine down, and be completed within only a few minutes, which is a small price to pay to keep a perfect smile would you not say?
Visit a Dentist
It is important to get yourself into the routine of visiting your dentist on a regular basis. You will want to see your dentist at least every six months, and if you have any problems in the interim, you should not be afraid to pay your dentist a visit. It is easy to find a dentist in Sydney, no matter where you live, so you should have no problem finding a conveniently located dentist that you can visit.
Brush your Teeth Often
In an ideal world, you would brush your teeth after each time that you eat something. By doing this, you will remove the bits of foods which started to decompose in the acid in the mouth, which then attacks the enamel. However, it is often not convenient to brush our teeth every time we eat something, so as a very minimum you will want to brush your teeth first thing you wake up in the morning, and then brush your teeth last thing before you sleep.
When brushing your teeth, start brushing the upper jaw, cleaning in circular motions, making sure every tooth gets the same amount of brushing. When you have finished this, do the same with the lower jaw, and when this is complete you will want to start cleaning the back of your teeth in the upper jaw, moving onto the teeth of the lower jaw when finished. Lastly, clean the top of your teeth where you chew, starting with the upper jaw, moving to the lower jaw. Scrub your tongue, cheeks, and gums lightly, and rinse your mouth thoroughly.
See the Hygienist
Another good habit is to see the hygienist regularly, as a regular scrape and polish will help to stop tartar and plaque from building up on your teeth. The process usually takes less than 20 minutes, and you can find a Sydney CBD Dental clinic and have this done in your lunch hour.
Floss your Teeth Daily
Another good habit that you will want to adopt is flossing your teeth on a daily basis. Doing this will make sure that bits of food do not get trapped between your teeth or in the gums, helping to keep your mouth healthy.
Eat a Balanced Diet
Eating a balanced diet is critical to our overall health, as well as the health of our teeth. You will want to try and reduce the amount of snacks and drinks that you consume that contain sugar, and try to look for healthy alternatives. Be careful of too much citrus fruit as the acid in the fruit can also damage your teeth if you consume too much. Eat a broad and varied diet, with a lot of fruit, nuts, and vegetables, and indulge yourself now and then. You can eat whatever you want after all, just as long as it is in moderation!
These are just some tips on how to keep your teeth strong and healthy. Share this to the entire family so all of you can maintain those picture perfect smiles.
