John Oliver on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue: How Is This Still a Thing?

Written by:  Jamie

We subscribe to Sports Illustrated…
Every year we’ll get the famous swimsuit issue, and every year I’ll think I’m going to find a great bathing suit. I mean, the sporty people at Sports Illustrated painstakingly put together an entire issue dedicated to swimsuits. I always assume that to be something good in there, and that is where I go wrong every single time. So, for my fellow swimsuit hunters, I offer this advice: Go in expectations low. Expect nothing.

And since the issue is less about bathing suits and more about being a clothed version of Playboy, John Oliver recently asked his audience, “How is this still a thing?” (video above)

Well, SI is just doing what SI has to do, so it’s hard to knock them for it. Controversy sells, and this year they are selling the “is her bikini pulled down too low?” question to the media. The media responds by pretending to be outraged or in love with the idea- “I think c-section scar chic is in right now! Own it…”

I just want to pass along the message that the SI swimsuit issue is not your go-to issue to find awesome swimsuits…

You’ll be seeing a lot of this:

According to SI the model is definitely wearing a swimsuit:

Having trouble finding it? (No, it isn’t the overalls)..

Let us help you…

It does kind of make you wonder why this is still a thing.
