Jeep Soft Tops vs Hardtops: What’s the Difference?

Written by:  Jamie

When getting your first Jeep, you have an important question you need to ask yourself. Do you want soft tops for Jeeps or hardtops? Each one has their advantages, and you need to determine which one benefits you the most. The primary difference between the two is right there in their names, but there is much more to the decision than mere aesthetics.

Soft Tops

Soft tops offer excellent versatility. You can easily remove them, fold them up and put them in the back seat of your Jeep. That means when you need to modify your Jeep on the go, you can do so easily. You will not be slowed down in the slightest. When a rain storm starts blowing through, you can effortlessly put the soft top back on before your seats get wet.

Since soft tops are not as durable as hardtops, you may need to replace them more often. Fortunately, they are typically a lot more affordable than the alternative. As you go shopping for Jeep Cherokee lift kits, you should also look at what soft tops are available.

Hardtops

Meanwhile, hardtops are far more durable. They generally last longer, and they provide a greater amount of insulation from the elements. If it rains or snows outside, then a hardtop will do a better job of keeping all the warm air inside the vehicle.

Hardtops take a little more practice to take down and put up. They do not fold up nicely, so you will need space in your garage for storage. However, when you purchase one hardtop, you can typically hand onto it for years without worrying about it degrading.

Neither one is inherently better than the other. It all comes down to what you need out of a Jeep cover. Browse through the selection available at a reputable online Jeep parts store to see what you can get for your vehicle today.
