Vaping turns trendy in many ways since the downfall of the major tobacco standings. Through the decades, smoking was the hip and cool thing to do with marketing such as Marlboro Man and Joe Camel. Sadly, once Mr. Marlboro developed lung cancer, the tides began to turn for the tobacco industry. The question is, does vaping fill that role? In many ways the answer is yes, but ultimately the cool factor for vaping falls into a few categories.
First off, vaping has taken over a huge niche market from the tobacco industry on two fronts. These consist of the younger generation who are the trendsetters, using mods and competitive vaping and the older generation looking to kick the habit of smoking. While these seemingly unrelatable demographics do not cross paths often, they have made one of the fastest growing industries in America. Keep in mind that this has all been done with minimal advertising.
In fact, advertising has been through word of mouth, a few celebrity endorsements, and one off lines in the media. Nothing nearly as all encompassing as smoking had poured into it during its hay day. However, some of these celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp do play to those younger crowds who use the mods. Other celebrities like Samuel L. Jackson use it more for the alternative to smoking. Both sets of niches have celebrity endorsements that make vaping trendy amongst their circles.
Not only has vaping been endorsed, it has been customized. Cigarettes never had the sheer volume of customizable ways to express your vaping. Being able to build your mod to look like a lightsaber or funnel a massive cloud for your trick has made vaping trend on many markets across the community. These devices allow a form of self-expression that likens to any fashion accessory, and it shows with how widely spread these genres can get.
One of the biggest movements that have trended inside vaping is competitive vaping. This idea of creating huge clouds or performing stunts to the biggest mods available has taken some parts of the US by storm. In fact, there is a convention based around vaping, YouTubers who have grown in fame over this, and a niche for real competitions that sponsor prizes. The fact that companies have built this niche market into such a diverse context shows just how trendy vaping has gotten.
So where is the next step? Movies and television have already started to vastly expand into the territory of vaping. Some companies, like Juul, have created their own public space on the counter of every convenience store. While vaping has not been given the spotlight like smoking was, it proves to be every bit as resourceful in its own niche. Is vaping trendy? While it may not be the biggest market out there, it certainly is growing into one. The answer is yes, vaping is one of the new trends to keep an eye on.
