I’ve been writing for I Am Not the Babysitter for a few months now and the one thing I’ve noticed is an overwhelming sense of community. Not everyone that follows the page takes the same approach to parenting or lifestyle choices but no one seems to bash anyone. It’s a wonderful concept but what happens when the topic of something other than parenting or breastfeeding comes up? I was inspired by the live Q & A with Dr. Jay Gordon. I noticed a lot of curiosity surrounding cosmetic procedures. Dr. Jay confirmed that it is safe to breastfeed after receiving fillers. The only other obstacle for me was the judgement. It made me wonder if I would be judged for getting work done? I decided it doesn’t really matter. We try to empower women everyday for loving their bodies as they are. I’m empowering myself to take a chance with something fun!
So I’m putting myself out there and getting lip injections while you have a front row seat. Is it vain? Sure. Does it serve any purpose other than cosmetic? Not a bit but that’s not the slightest deterrent for me. Lots of moms are having procedures done from botox to peels and yes, in my case lip injections. Let’s drop the stigma of enhancements. This is a shame free zone because sometimes I want to feel like more than just a mom. I’m aware that not only am I “mom enough”, I’m Mom AF and I have the shirt to prove it. Doing things for myself helps me maintain a sense of me and in turn I’m a better mom to my kids. I’m happier when I feel good about my appearance. Not having my lips done doesn’t detract from how I feel about myself but doing things solely for the sake of vanity is something I consider fun. I love spas and blow outs. I take my toddler for mommy and me mani/pedis. I’m comfortable enough to admit that I get a Brazilian wax regularly. Cosmetic procedures are just another fun thing in my mind.
I’m sharing this experience live so that people who are curious, or might be interested in having the procedure, can get their questions answered. I will be able to show you what actually happens in real time. Feel free to ask the doctor any questions you may have. We will be following the live broadcast with a Q and A along side Dr. Abrishami so that you can ask all your skin questions. Dr. A is a very good friend and a phenomenal doctor. He is a dermatologist and a dermapathologist. Which means he can address all your inquiries pertaining to skin especially those that afflict new moms like melasma, loss of collagen, stretch marks, and anything else you can think of. Follow my journey as a guinea pig. We will be broadcasting with Jamie and the gang at 9am PST.
