With the new school year just around the corner, you should make sure that you are prepared in every way possible before sending your kids back out into the world. While you can never be prepared for everything the universe could throw at you, there are a few ways you can make this beginning school year a lot smoother. Here are a few ways you can get ahead of the school stress before it even begins.
Start getting into a routine and schedule now
When you start preparing your kids for the school schedule and routine before it even begins, you will find that it is actually a lot easier to get them out of bed and ready when it is time. Don’t push them to start the schedule right away, work with it slowly. Wake them up an hour earlier every day leading up to the new school year, tell them to brush their teeth and shower before bed, make their beds in the morning, and get them a good breakfast to start the day.
Try different simple meals for your kids
When your kids go back to school, they will no longer be offered the same lunch that you have been giving them all summer. The best way to bring them back down to the reality of school lunches is to test out simple meals you can make every day before school.
Try out different sandwiches, salads, microwaved chicken nuggets, and other things. See which of these different meals your child likes the most, and start packing that for lunch and leave it out of every other meal plan. You don’t want your child getting sick of the meal, so make sure that you have a few options to switch between every few weeks. Don’t choose anything that could stain white kitchen cabinets as this is not something that you want your children to bring to school and get messy with.
Take refresher tests to see where your child’s mind is at
Another thing you want to do is run through different subjects with your child. Talk about the things that your child learned before summer, see how much of that they remember. This will help you figure out if they need to be studying before starting this new school year.
A lot of parents forget to refresh their child’s memory before sending them to a new grade. If your child doesn’t remember what they have learned before taking a break, they are going to start the new year off with bad grades. So make sure that they are prepared for this.
Buy everything you need a few weeks before the school year begins
While back-to-school sales happen closer to when kids actually go back to school, you can still find deals around the internet before then. You want to get your shopping done as soon as possible because everyone else is going to be shopping those sales, and you might forget to buy something until it is too late, whether that be because it is out of stock or your kids are already in school and you cannot get them what they need.
Always make sure that you are prepared with school supplies at least a month before school begins. This will give you time to go over a checklist before it is time for school.
Make a meal plan for dinner
After everything else is planned and prepared for, you want to make sure that you have your life figured out. You want to make sure that you will be able to give your children the meal that they need at the end of every single day, but you also want to make sure that you aren’t overworking yourself. Make a simple meal plan and stick by it for as long as you can before you and your kids start to feel sick when you think of that specific meal. Give your kids the nutrients that they need, but also make life easier for yourself. Don’t choose a meal that requires you to be in the kitchen for more than an hour.
