How to Know If Your Kid Has the Right Scooter

Written by:  Jamie

As a devoted parent, there are plenty of good reasons why buying a kick scooter for your child is a brilliant idea. One main reason is that the scooter helps your child build physical confidence and develop motor skills. Additionally, it prepares your child to learn how to ride the two-wheeler bicycles, and it is considered an option for exercising outdoors. Choosing the right scooter for your child is not so easy, especially for the parents doing it for the first time. Since there are many things to consider, you might want to refer to the tips below for help.

Control and balance

Your child should feel comfortable scooting. The two-wheeler scooters require the child to balance and steer the traditional handlebars. Therefore, this can put off a child who is less confident in the event that he or she encounters initial challenges. The 3 wheeled scooters, on the other hand, take a different approach and come with a larger surface and your child will not fall to the ground without support. The three-wheelers are great, especially for helping kids boost their confidence while getting the rider to grasp scooting as an incredibly easy task. The fact that it is easier to ride is great for the less patient kids that prefer independent travel.

Replacement parts

If you plan to make a one-off purchase, then you shouldn’t ignore this important consideration. If the scooter is put together with components that can be taken, including the handlebars, scooter wheels, kick plate, and handlebar stem, then you could easily replace these parts if the need arises.

Tip: Examine the joints and look at the section where the handlebar stem connects to the kick plate. Are these components welded together? In some cases, a hinge is used to connect them together (especially if foldable). You can always find out from the sellers, if the brand you intend to buy stocks the vital replacement parts.

Braking system

The scooter should have a good quality braking system, as this will allow your child to stop quickly and efficiently in emergencies. Furthermore, a good braking system helps by saving your child from accidents.

Weight

Different materials are used in the construction of scooters. Therefore, consider the scooter’s weight prior to making a purchase decision. If you want your child to get straight into a two-wheeler, the effort your child puts into keeping the handlebars upright should not hinder his or her ability to move around. You don’t want a situation where your little one is easily frustrated by the scooter; otherwise, he might get reluctant to play with it. Note that the weight also slows down the rider. If you choose a cumbersome and heavy scooter, the rider might have to exert more effort to move.

Whatever type of scooter you choose for your child, you can be sure that scooting is an ultimate fun activity that your little one will certainly enjoy. Just make the right decision while using the tips presented above as a guide through the buying process. With the right choice, you can prepare your child to enjoy scooting fun and adventure that lies ahead.
