How to create the ideal children’s playroom

Written by:  Rex

So, you’ve got a room ready to become your children’s new playroom, all you need now is to decorate it right?  But with so many products and ideas to choose from, how do you create the ideal playroom for your children?

Here’s a few points you might want to consider before you start.

Decorate for soft play

It’s a playroom and for most kids that means playing on the floor. Although they’re not popular with everyone, a carpet is a good soft surface to play on.  A thick vinyl flooring will offer some padding and could be an alternative solution. And it should be easy to clean.

Make sure you go for a reputable company to fit your flooring and make sure the surface is properly prepared and the necessary underlay is installed.  Basically, don’t be too thrifty with the cost to fit a new carpet or vinyl floor, a badly laid floor won’t stand up to the rigors of children’s playtime!

Furnish with fun

Now, a playroom wouldn’t be a playroom without a whole lot of fun elements to it.  Why not turn an awkward alcove into a den? Why not think about adding a games table or play kitchen, and perhaps some funky seating such as beanbag chairs?  What about adding a hammock or swing chair for a bit of quirky fun?

Don’t be afraid to think big. Giant sized games that you usually find in gardens also work well in playrooms.  Giant four-in-a-row, chess and tower games are great fun.  Feeling really creative? Make a road network for toy cars that stretches around the room or paint a whole wall with chalkboard paint to create a giant blackboard.

Encourage education

Why not paint the ceiling to depict the solar system and label planets, moons and constellations? Alternatively, add wall charts and maps to the wall.  Many now have interactive elements to them to make learning fun.

Activity tables encourage creativity and can help keep homework fun.  Pick one that’s easy to clean and that comes with built-in storage to help keep things tidy.

Finally, make sure you have a brightly-colored bookshelf filled with interesting and engaging books.  And use those beanbag chairs to create a comfy space for reading.

Hopefully, these pointers will help you create the ideal playroom for your children.
