Are these health risks slipping under the radar in your home?

I think it’s fair to say that we all worry about the health of our families. In the home, this shouldn’t be a major problem. It should be easy to protect the health of your family when they are in those four walls. But is it? You might surprised to learn that there are quite a few health hazards that you just aren’t aware of. It would be scaremongering to call them silent killers, but if they are left undetected, they can be quite dangerous.

The Damp Damage

You might have areas of damp in certain rooms around your home. Usually, this is due to poor air circulation rather than a serious problem in your home. If you have damp, you will see wet patches on the wall, usually close by to the windows. Hot air is meeting cold air creating condensation. The condensation builds until you get an annoying damp patch that many people simply ignore. After all, it’s not doing any harm is it? Well, it could be particularly, if you don’t do anything to fix it. It can mean that mold develops. If you have mold present, talk to a restoration company that specializes in mold removal and remediation immediately. Often times, it can be fixed within 2 days and your homeowner’s insurance may cover it.  Mold in itself isn’t dangerous, but the spores that it releases can be toxic to children.

The good news is that there’s an easy way to get rid of damp. You can get an air humidifier for your home. It can be as small or large as you like. There are even some you can put on windowsills to collect condensation if you have poor insulation.

Once you have a dry wall, wipe it clean and consider some fresh paint or decorative wall stickers. These days you can get custom designs to compliment any room. For your kinds bedroom or nursery, Wallboss offers some great custom designs that are simple to apply and remove.

Sticky And Tricky

You might have a few nonstick pans in your home. There’s nothing worse than making something delicious and find that it’s ruined because it’s all stuck to the bottom of the pan. But, there is a solution to this problem. You can buy nonstick pans, the only problem is that these have been linked as a cause for certain cancers. The chemicals used are now believed to be incredibly dangerous. Despite still being available for purchase, you would be better buying a stone frying pan. Stone frying pan brands use a different compound on the surface to get the same result.

Be Weary of Water

You might prefer that your kids drank water from the tap than a soda can. But you might be surprised to learn that water can be just as dangerous to their health as a bottle of pop. In fact, it can be more life threatening according to recent research. It’s not the water itself but what’s hidden inside it. Water companies often use fluoride to clean water and ironically, ensure it’s safe to drink. Fluoride is the chemical that you find in toothpaste. It keeps your teeth nice and clean, free from bacteria but it isn’t meant to be consumed. Drinking fluoride has been connected to the development or brain tumors and even learning difficulties.

The fix here would be a water filter. With a water filter, you can get rid of all the nasty chemicals in the water and just get the natural, clean goodness. You can rent a water filter and have it regularly filled or buy one for yourself.
