A nine-year-old, Kamryn Redfro, shaved her head to support her best friend, Delaney Clements, who is fighting cancer.
Delaney had started chemotherapy, and said that Kamryn’s gesture made her feel “special” and “not alone.”
Great, right?
Well, when Kamryn’s school found out about her shaved head, they told her she could not go to class until she got a wig or her natural hair grew in.
Why?
According to them it “violated dress code.”
Kamryn’s mother, Wendy Campbell, e-mailed the school to explain the situation. Administration still refused to allow Kamryn back because they could “not make any exceptions.”
Unless the media gets involved.
After a firestorm of media reports, Kamryn was told she she could go back to school.
The school needs to learn the difference between “letter of the law” and “spirit of the law.” Also, they need to figure out what their hang-up is about hairstyles- regardless of the back story.
