Getting Healthy Creatively

Written by:  Jamie

We know that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is essential for physical and mental health and for preventing diseases. We also know that diet and exercise are the two most important factors in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Lots of us have probably tried various diets and exercise regimens, to varying degrees of success. Remember, though, that there’s no one-size-fits all approach to physical activity and diet–which means there is a lot of room for creativity.

Staying active

When it comes to staying active, the possibilities abound! If a daily gym regimen just isn’t for you, try looking into some other fitness options. If you enjoy playing team sports, see if there are local groups that do pickup soccer or basketball (you can probably even find these groups online.) You might take Pilates or yoga to promote strength and flexibility–and taught in a classroom away from the sensory-overload of the gym. If you want to learn a new hobby and get fit at the same time, consider taking lessons of some type, such as dance, ice skating, or skiing! A dance class is a great way to burn tons of calories, and learning the various routines is a good exercise for your brain as well.

On the other hand, you may be the sort of person who needs to feel “productive” all the time, and for whom taking the time to exercise just feels like a waste of useful day. Now, we could pontificate about how exercising is actually quite productive for your long-term well-being, but you probably know that deep down. If you are the kind of person who needs to know you’ve done something helpful or productive, take on your some manual labor. If you hire people to mow your lawn, paint your house, or even install and organize your business’ steel slatwall, start taking on some of those tasks yourself! When the team comes in to put up those new display shelves, help load things in and out. Switch your lawnmower from a riding one to a push mower–a 125-lb. person can burn up to 102 calories from just a half hour of using a power push mower!

Keeping a good diet

Myriad cookbooks, blogs, and TV are dedicated to making healthful eating more fun and feasible. Take smoothies, for instance. A green smoothie can give you most of your needed servings of fruit and even a serving of veggies. Additionally, you can get protein by adding peanut butter or a protein powder–which may well include extra vitamins and minerals. Smoothies are a great meal replacement because they are sweet, delicious, and filling, as well as nourishing.

While there’s really no placement for a well-balanced, moderated diet, sometimes you may want a little boost, both for weight loss and for overall nutrition. If you’re wanting a little metabolic boost, consider Ephedra diet pills that you take in conjunction with a good diet and regular exercise. If you’re needing a boost in energy, consider a multivitamin, a B-vitamin, or iron supplements to help make sure you’re getting all the nutrients you need.
