Finding a Unique Gift for Your Spouse

Written by:  Jamie

It’s that time again. You’re looking for for a gift for your significant other, and you’re likely wondering: how to find a good gift for my spouse? You may be newlyweds or matrimonial veterans, but either way, finding the right gift can be tricky. A good gift might not be important to you, but it is to your spouse. Or, the other way around. Either way, you don’t want to settle for buying him or her a pair of pants. You want the gift to be both meaningful and appreciated. The question remains–how to do it?

A good place to start, when looking for a gift for your spouse, is the person’s passions. What does he or she love to do? Make a list of what makes your spouse excited. Is it hiking, camping, dancing, coffee, sports, gardening, or something else? Think about that passion and find a related gift. With the internet, it’s easier than ever to find unique gifts, so whether you search on Etsy for gardener gifts or custom jewelry, there’s something clever you can find that celebrates your partner.

Another good way to think of gift ideas is to start with your spouse’s profession. If your spouse sits at a cubicle, a snack dispenser (or a year’s supply of snacks) would probably be appreciated. You could also find cubicle art, or something to make him or her laugh while dealing with work stress. Different careers will provide different ideas, like these bag tags for anyone who works as a pilot.

Last, but not least, a good gift for your spouse could be something romantic. If you’ve heard of The Five Love Languages, you probably know which ones are most important to you and your spouse. Those love languages will help give you ideas as you think about what makes your spouse feel the most loved. Romantic gestures help keep the spark alive, so a weekend getaway, a book of memories, or another romantic gift can help you and your spouse invest in your relationship.

No matter what gift you choose to give your spouse, remember that the more specific the gift, the more likely it will be meaningful. As much as you can draw from your spouse’s passion, everyday life, and unique personality, the better off you’ll be. You can find hundreds of unique gifts if you only find one aspect of their personhood to dwell on, like a love of Dorothy L Sayers or college basketball. When it comes to finding the right gift for your spouse, don’t get discouraged! The perfect gift is waiting.
